Job summary

The post holder will be an independent practitioner clinical cardiac physiologist specialist, with proven competency in all aspects of non-invasive and invasive cardiac diagnostic testing and reporting at a specialist level.

This role will be based primarily within Cardiac Suite 6 and the Cardiac catheter laboratories and will require flexible working.

A cross-functional approach to teamwork is encouraged to ensure high quality service delivery and there is an opportunity to develop expertise in specialist areas such as CPET, interventional cardiology and/or complex CRM.

You will be a highly self-motivated team member who is organised, flexible and reliable. You must be able to demonstrate proficiency in diagnostic cardiology and be enthusiastic to teach peers, junior staff and students as well as developing yourself in a specialist area with the intention of continuous post-graduate CPD.

Rotation around a broad range of clinical physiology areas will be necessary, in order to maintain competencies for state registration purposes.

Participation in the emergency on-call service for primary angioplasty and/or emergency arrhythmia pathway will be required.

Main duties of the job

  • To demonstrate clinical physiology proficiency in a range of routine techniques to include non-invasive diagnostics, pacemaker implantation, follow-up and cardiac catheterisation.
  • To participate in the primary angioplasty on-call service and/or emergencyarrhythmia pathway.
  • To undertake training in implantation and follow-up of ICDs and biventricular devices and/or cardiopulmonary exercise testing and to willingly undertake new tasks and embrace new technology.
  • To provide technical and clinical advice as necessary to peers, juniors and students, whilst demonstrating an awareness of when issues should be escalated.
  • To supervise and mentor junior colleagues, PTP and STP students encouraging high standards of performance.
  • To review and prioritise inpatient requests for cardiac investigations including but not limited to; ambulatory ECG recording, exercise tolerance tests and head up tilt table tests, liaising with ward staff and ensuring availability of cardiac physiology staff and resources in conjunction with a multi-disciplinary team.

  • To competently perform, analyse and report ambulatory ECG including event recorders, resting and ambulatory BP recordings
  • To supervise exercise tolerance testing, Cardio Pulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET) and Head-Up Tilt Testing (HUTT) and report the diagnostic findings upon completion of local standards
  • To competently document haemodynamic monitoring and procedural records during diagnostic, interventional (PCI, IVUS, OCT, shockwave, rotablation, IABP, Impella) and structural (TAVI, Mitraclip, LAAO, PFO closure) cardiac catheterisation procedures.
  • To demonstrate an awareness of the needs and priorities of co-workers, other departments and of the role of the Cardiac Department within both the Cardiac Care Group and Trust as a whole; coordinating and cooperating with colleagues and applying a flexible, collaborative, team building approach
  • To attend and actively participate in departmental meetings and in conjunction with senior colleagues to contribute a proactive approach to issues relating to quality of care, clinical physiologist standards and efficiency improvements, as applied to own area of work and that of junior colleagues
  • In conjunction with the Principal Physiologists, to participate in stock control, ordering, monitoring of expenditure, ensuring efficient usage of consumables and liaise with company representatives as required
  • To complete the Band 6 Staff Development Programme as necessaryTo provide technical and clinical advice as necessary to peers, juniors and students, whilst demonstrating an awareness of when issues should be escalated
  • To supervise and mentor junior colleagues, PTP and STP students encouraging high standards of performance
  • To assist in education throughout the Trust, including medical students, PTP and STP trainees
  • To identify and attend relevant conferences and courses to maintain continuous professional development
