About the role
As a SCADA Engineer you will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing and maintenance SCADA systems for solar PV and BESS power plants. Your role will ensure the efficient and reliable operation of these systems, contributing to the overall performance, safety and security of the projects. The SCADA Engineer will be Cero’s subject matter expert and provide strategic direction on SCADA topics, as well as oversight and support to CERO's development, procurement, and construction teams, ensuring that SCADA and data systems are standardised, suitable, robust and compliant with internal and external stakeholder requirements.
The SCADA Engineer will have strong technical knowledge and experience being able to directly manage specialist consultants as well as representing CERO’s interests, and building relationships, to key stakeholders such as network operators, SCADA suppliers and internal partners.
Main responsibilities
- Define the high-level concept and SCADA architecture to meet:
- Business needs
- System and network security and availability requirements
- Network operator requirements (project specific)
- Responsible for supporting the continuous improvement of SCADA processes and tools
- Develop and improve internal processes and operations with other Cero’s teams, to optimise overall commercial results and risk management.
- Develop strong internal relationship with Cero’s multi-disciplinary teams including training and knowledge sharing (grid, engineering, construction, operations and information technology/cybersecurity) to be effective in the role.
- Ensure lessons learnt are captured, reported, and communicated throughout the project life cycle.
Development
- Responsible for ensuring that appropriate FEED has been performed based on the development stage and connection complexity.
- Have oversight of proposed communication solutions for the plant and that these meet necessary requirements
Procurement
- Responsible for specification of all SCADA workstreams and contracts to procure SCADA services and works (ICP, EPC, O&M, PPA, etc.) to ensure that all items are assigned, and interfaces are covered.
- Alignment and collaboration with procurement and construction managers in assessing SCADA related risk management and works time schedule.
- Specification of required Owners Engineering services and other relevant consultants’ scope of works regarding SCADA.
- Provide ongoing support to the relationship between the network operator and other key SCADA stakeholders.
- Ensure compatibility amongst the different equipment (hardware) aligning with Cero requirements.
Construction
- Supervise the SCADA package detailed design interfacing with the grid and electrical engineering work packages
- Oversight of manufacturers equipment (hardware) final design and interfacing.
- Maintain oversight of SCADA activities to ensure contractors delivering to scope and quality
- Manage SCADA interfaces, with support of OE, between the PM, Grid Works Manager, EPC and other key connection stakeholders
- Ensure necessary inventories and documentation is delivered
- Perform site audits as necessary
- Attend FAT and SAT as necessary
- Support (on site) SCADA and compliance testing
- Responsible for SCADA items hand over to operations
Operations
- Provide advice and guidance to operations for all SCADA items, providing technical support and leading in SCADA diagnostics and troubleshooting in partnership with O&M Contractors and Asset Managers
- Support in ongoing activities related to cybersecurity monitoring, management, response and improvement workstreams.
- Manage the secure configuration of remote connectivity solutions and the integration of SCADA and other OT data into centralised systems, ensuring alignment with cybersecurity and operational requirements.
What will you need to succeed in the role?
Essential Skills
- 5+ years Industry technical experience and market understanding of renewable energy plant, their control and connection to distribution and transmission systems
- Experience in the management of sub-contractors and consultants.
- Technical background ideally with a degree in relevant area (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field with focus on SCADA systems)
- Knowledge of cyber-security networking and network concepts
- Ability to interpret diagrams and schematics including power protection systems, networking and control, electrical, mechanical and civil drawings
- Understanding of commercial aspects of the EPC process and preparation of project specifications.
- Self-motivated professional with excellent communication and analytical skills.
- Strong delivery focus & attention to detail.
- Excellent presentation skills including preparation of materials.
- Team player with excellent communication skills.
- Willingness to travel as required for project work.
- Fluent in English. Additional languages (Italian, Spanish, French, Polish, Greek) are advantageous.
