About the Property division

Our team of underwriters focus on Property lines across the London Market, ranging from Household, Commercial Property, Flood and Major Property. Methods of placement range from Binders and line slips, both digital and traditional, to direct and facultative, shared and layered open market placements. As a high performing, diverse team, we are always looking to challenge ourselves to deliver exceptional underwriting performance and quality.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Property Binders team as an Underwriter. The focus will be on our High Value and Ultra-High Value Homes segment of the portfolio, contributing to this significant line of business within the London market which is part of the fabric of Hiscox, having been specialists in High Value Home underwriting since the 1960’s. In addition to this you will also contribute to underwriting across our vast commercial property products. You’ll be part of a dynamic and established lead market, operating across multiple territories. If you like a challenge and work to high standards, this could be the role for you.

 

 

What you’ll be doing in the role

- Management of binding authorities and broker relationships

- Underwriting of referrals at the box, in brokers offices or digitally

- Support the development of our products and refinement of our pricing

- Underwriting new and existing risks presented to Hiscox

- Support the development of our products and refinement of our pricing

- Develop new business across the US, Canada and Caribbean. International exposure is also beneficial.

- Support in further development of our underwriting system, control processes and reporting suite

- Attend client meetings and events to grow industry knowledge and sell the Hiscox brand

- Contribute to wordings and contract review process

- Support with portfolio management and business planning

- Conduct market and industry research to develop knowledge

The Candidate

We are looking for an individual who is highly analytical, driven and detail orientated with a passion for execution. You will need to be articulate and exhibit a track record of good decision making skills, working under pressure and to tight deadlines, with an ability to quickly understand problems and create and implement solutions. To succeed in this role, you need to be a team player, believe in achieving as a team and have empathy for others even in pressurised situations.

 

Our requirements

- Previous High value home underwriting experience

- Previous delegated property experience

- US / Canada experience preferred

- International underwriting experience is beneficial

- Experience as a lead market is favourable

- Strong mathematical literacy and interested in technical aspects of underwriting and pricing.

- A confident communicator with demonstrable communication skills both oral and written

- A strong track record of working successfully in a team

- An understanding of catastrophe models and their impact in writing single risks or a portfolio of risks would be favourable

- Have a keen interest in data analytics

- ACII qualification or good progress towards

- A natural innovator who always looks for a better way to service their customer

- Ability to prioritise work and manage effectively and accurately under pressure, ensuring that deadlines are met
