Start Date: January 2027
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
School Information
An Outstanding Secondary School in Bexley is seeking an experienced and motivated Pastoral Manager to join its student support team. The school has high expectations for behaviour, attendance and personal development, and is committed to ensuring that students receive the guidance they need to succeed both academically and socially.
The pastoral team works closely with teaching staff, senior leaders, families and external professionals to promote positive behaviour and maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment. The school believes that strong relationships, consistent expectations and early intervention are central to helping students overcome barriers to learning.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with pastoral experience who is passionate about supporting young people and contributing to a positive school culture.
The Role
The Pastoral Manager will oversee the day-to-day pastoral support of a designated year group or cohort, helping to maintain high standards of behaviour, attendance and student engagement.
The successful candidate will monitor behaviour and attendance patterns, investigate incidents, coordinate interventions and work with students to address issues affecting their progress. They will support the implementation of the school's behaviour policies, ensuring that expectations are applied consistently and that appropriate follow-up takes place.
The role will involve liaising with parents and carers, coordinating meetings and working with Heads of Year, form tutors, safeguarding staff and senior leaders. The Pastoral Manager will also contribute to individual support plans for students who require additional guidance and monitor progress to assess the effectiveness of interventions.
Where concerns relate to safeguarding, the successful applicant will ensure that these are recorded accurately and passed to the appropriate member of staff. The role will also involve promoting positive relationships, encouraging student responsibility and helping prevent recurring behaviour or attendance issues.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a pastoral, behaviour management, student welfare or school support role. Experience working with secondary-aged pupils and managing challenging behaviour would be particularly beneficial.
Applicants should have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage constructively with students, parents and colleagues. A good understanding of safeguarding, attendance procedures and behaviour management strategies is essential.
The successful candidate will be organised, resilient and capable of managing sensitive situations professionally. They should be able to build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries and consistent expectations.
What the School Offers
The school provides a supportive pastoral structure, opportunities for professional development and the chance to contribute to whole-school improvement. The successful applicant will work with a committed team focused on student achievement, wellbeing and positive behaviour.
