Introduction to the Team

At B2B division, we bring Expedia Group's innovative technology and distribution solutions to partners across the world. These businesses include global financial institutions, corporate managed travel, offline travel agents, global travel suppliers (like major airlines) and many more.

Our engineering teams within PLS build and maintain the scalable, resilient platforms that power our partner ecosystem. As a Senior Software Development Engineer, you will be a high-impact individual contributor and technical leader — shaping engineering standards, mentoring peers, and delivering complex solutions that directly serve our global partners.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead end-to-end technical design and delivery of complex, ambiguous projects, partnering with stakeholders across the organization

  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and engineering excellence

  • Serve as a domain expert and advocate for software design best practices, resiliency, scalability, and operational excellence

  • Guide integrations across teams within the business unit, ensuring cohesive, fully functional solutions to business problems

  • Research, evaluate, and recommend frameworks, architectural patterns, and technology choices — communicating decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Establish operational excellence metrics at the team level, including testing strategies, monitoring, alerting, and SLAs

  • Identify areas of improvement in existing systems and propose scalable, non-disruptive solutions

  • Lead communities of practice, bringing people together for shared learning and cross-functional knowledge exchange

  • Partner with business stakeholders to ensure the team's technology decisions are clearly tied to business outcomes and organisational goals

  • Report on the status of high-visibility projects to technical leadership through written and verbal communication

Experience and Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience — with 8+ years of software engineering experience; OR Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience — with 6+ years of software engineering experience

  • Demonstrated experience leading the technical design of 3+ projects end-to-end

  • Experience contributing to 2+ multi-quarter projects within decentralized, cross-functional teams

  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages or technologies, with the ability to justify choices to varied audiences

  • Experience formally mentoring at least 3 individuals

  • Proficient communication skills, with a track record of collaborating across teams with varied perspectives

  • Solid understanding of testing, monitoring, and observability tools and methodologies

  • Experience designing software that is scalable, resilient, and easily testable and observable

Preferred:

  • Contribution to the broader engineering community through blog posts, open-source work, tech talks, or similar activities

  • Experience stepping into peer engineering management responsibilities as occasions arise

  • Knowledge of integration patterns for connecting applications, databases, and technology platforms into end-to-end solutions
