We’re reinventing payments.
In less than four years, Dojo disrupted the market to become the largest and most loved acquirer in the UK. Our payments infrastructure, purpose-built for in-person commerce, is game changing.
Now, over 150,000 customers across four countries choose to transact billions with us every year.
But we’re just getting started.
Our people are the driving force behind our success. They are our greatest investment and our ultimate competitive advantage. We hire exceptional people and give them the autonomy, trust, and ownership to thrive. The results take care of themselves.

The role

The Data Science team at Dojo has a mission to deeply understand businesses and consumers, and to use this understanding to build products that facilitate the growth of our customers! Our data science team is building solutions that are accessible to businesses of all sizes and industries, helping level the playing field. Thanks to the wealth of data we have and the widespread use of our payment terminals, we're able to make a real impact.

We are looking for a Senior Machine Learning / Data Scientist to join our central data team and realise our goal of making data science and machine learning the unique selling point of our company. We also support our internal teams across the business by providing valuable insights, making predictions, and optimising processes. This is a great opportunity for an aspiring data science leader to help shape the future of machine learning and data science at Dojo.

What you will do:

  • Lead on machine learning projects around the business from discovery and ideation, through to model development and deployment.

  • Actively participate in the discovery process, finding new opportunities for the application of machine learning and data science across the business, and recommending solutions.

  • Contribute to a range of projects, with the opportunity to cover many areas of machine learning and data science including:

    • Generating automatic, actionable insights for our customers to help with their decision-making.

    • Creating bespoke restaurant recommendations for hungry Dojo-app users.

    • Building propensity models to help increase product and feature adoption.

    • Designing automated fraud and risk detection algorithms to keep our customers and card-holders safe.

  • Apply these projects across the business, by working closely with stakeholders from all over Dojo: from product and engineering to sales and customer success.

  • Mentor other ML/Data Scientists throughout Dojo and champion best-practices.

  • Be a strong proponent for machine learning and data science across the business and contribute to the creation of a data science culture within the team.

What you will bring:

  • A track-record of bringing machine learning / data science / statistical models from ideation all the way to production.

  • Familiarity with cloud computing (specifically from the perspective of building machine learning applications), and understanding of software development principles: TDD, CI/CD, version control software such as Git.

  • Curiosity and the desire to continuously learn.

  • Passion for machine learning, data science, and statistics, and how these can be used to drive value at companies.

  • Enthusiasm for growing other Data Scientists, and helping them learn and improve.

  • Strong communication and visualisation skills with the ability to talk on complex topics to varied audiences.

Ideally you will also have experience with:

  • MLOps and MLFlow tools, techniques, and best practices.

  • Our specific tech stack: BigQuery, Databricks, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

  • Mentorship and/or line-management

  • Demonstrable experience in any of:

    • A/B testing and experimentation

    • Bayesian inference and statistics

    • Recommendation systems

    • Graph and network science theory, algorithms, and databases

    • Propensity modelling

    • Natural language processing methods

Dojo home and away

We believe our best work happens when we collaborate in-person. These “together days” foster communication, drive innovation and spark our brightest ideas.

That's why we have an office-first culture. This means working from the office 4+ days per week.

With offices across Europe, we know a thing or two about staying dynamic. Need deep focus? Head to a quiet zone. Big ideas? Collaboration spaces have you covered. Just here for a catch-up? Our social hubs make it easy. Do work that counts, in spaces made for you.

Question: what’s curious, relentless, and customer obsessed?

If you’re keen to know the answer, you’re a third of the way to meeting our Dojo values.

If the following speak to you, let’s talk:

  • You’re curious. You have a real desire to learn and create.
  • You’re relentless. You keep going even when it’s easier not to.
  • You’re customer-obsessed. You know how important customers are to what you do.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion at Dojo

From local bakeries to well-known eateries, Dojo payments serve over 140,000 places across the UK.

And something that’s fundamental to creating relevant, innovative products at Dojo is to build teams to reflect the diversity of the businesses we serve.

Our drive to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion is closely linked to helping employees thrive and innovating for better customer experiences.

If you care about your work, you’re curious, and you think customer-first, you have a place at Dojo.

To make sure you’re the best you can be throughout the recruitment process, let us know if you need any extra adjustments to help you thrive.
