Town Planner
Looking to step into a role where you can have real influence, work on genuinely exciting projects, and be part of a collaborative and respected team? This is a standout opportunity for a Town Planner ready to take their next step in a commercially focused, client-facing environment based in central Edinburgh.
This planning consultancy has built a strong reputation across the UK for delivering clear, strategic advice to developers, investors, and landowners. The team in Edinburgh is small, agile, and close-knit, but benefits from the support and backing of a wider national business. You’ll find yourself surrounded by experienced professionals who want you to succeed, encouraged to bring fresh ideas to the table, and trusted to take ownership of your work from day one.
The work is broad and varied. You’ll be advising clients on the best way to unlock value from land and property, guiding major planning applications through the system, handling appeals, and helping shape the early-stage strategy on complex sites. This isn’t just about ticking boxes or writing reports – it’s about adding value, finding solutions, and having a voice at the table. Clients include private landowners, major housebuilders, logistics and commercial developers, housing associations, and everything in between. The scale and impact of the work will challenge you, and the support you’ll get to meet that challenge is top drawer.
You’ll be given room to grow - fast. The leadership team believes in nurturing talent, giving you responsibility early, and helping you carve out a route that works for you. Whether you’re recently chartered or on your way there, you’ll be supported to hit your goals – and you’ll be encouraged to build your own relationships and reputation in the market. This is the kind of role where you’ll get out from behind the desk and have a real say in how things are done.
The team culture is friendly, professional, and ambitious without being cutthroat. They work hard, but they do it in a way that values people and balance. You’ll be based in a well-connected office in the heart of the city, with the option of hybrid working and a genuinely supportive, flexible approach. You’ll be working closely with planning and development colleagues as well as wider professionals across the property lifecycle, giving you broader exposure than a traditional planning role might offer.
If you’re a town planner with consultancy experience, or from a public sector background looking to make the move, this could be the perfect fit. What matters most is that you’re commercially minded, client focused, and ready to get stuck in.
To apply, just send over a CV – even if it’s not quite polished. If you meet most of the brief and this sounds like your kind of move, let’s have a chat.
