Commercial Finance Manager (Maternity Cover)
Role Purpose
The Commercial Finance Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the financial integrity of the business. The role oversees billing accuracy, credit control, and month-end close, with a strong focus on contract-based revenue, service consumption, and recurring billing. Working closely with all areas of the business, including Sales and Account Management, Managed Services, Professional Services and Procurement, the Commercial Finance Manager ensures revenue is recognised correctly, collections are optimised, and commercial processes support sustainable growth. This role also provides leadership to the Accounts Receivable and Credit Control teams, fostering a culture of accountability, development, and operational excellence.
This role is for a FTC Maternity cover of 12-15 months the role will be based remote with an expectation of occasional attendance at the London office. It is anticipated that this role will start February 2026.
Key Responsibilities
Billing & Revenue Assurance
- Oversee all recurring, contract-based, and consumption-based billing cycles to ensure invoices are accurate, timely, and aligned to agreements and orders.
- Maintain strong controls around agreements data, billable time and orders to prevent revenue leakage.
- Track unbilled revenue, WIP, and billable time, working with Service Delivery and Account Managers to drive billing.
- Drive improvements to billing workflows and systems used for agreement management, ticketing, and PSA tools (ConnectWise).
Credit Control & Collections
- Manage credit control activities alongside the credit controller to ensure healthy cash flow and minimise overdue debt.
- Review customer credit risk, set credit limits, and escalate delinquent accounts when needed.
- Monitor debtor ageing, identify trends in disputed invoices, and work with operations and account teams to resolve root causes.
- Build strong customer relationships to support proactive communication and timely payment.
Month-End Close & Reporting
- Lead the commercial components of month-end close, including revenue recognition for recurring services, projects, and reseller.
- Ensure accurate posting of accruals, deferrals, and contract revenue adjustments in line with accounting policies.
- Prepare monthly management information, revenue bridges, variance analysis, and billing/cash KPIs.
- Support external audits with clear documentation and reconciliations.
Commercial Partnering & Process Improvement
- Partner with Sales and Account Management, Managed Services and Professional Services to ensure commercial terms are adhered to and operational activities align with contract financials.
- Support contract renewals, pricing reviews, and commercial negotiations with financial insight and analysis.
- Identify opportunities to automate billing, integrate PSA/finance systems, and improve the end-to-end order-to-cash process.
- Strengthen internal controls and support the development of scalable processes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Management, or related field.
- Minimum 5+ years' experience in revenue management, preferably in IT or MSP sector.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS with exposure to consolidated accounts.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, ERP systems, and financial reporting tools.
