Our mission is to maximise and advocate for the holistic health of all children, young people and the adults they will become, through world-class research, education and public engagement. The UCL GOS ICH, together with its clinical partner Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, forms the largest concentration of children's health research outside North America. The 2024-29 GOS ICH strategy focuses on its five scientific programmes. GOS ICH's activities include active engagement with children and families, to ensure that our work is relevant and appropriate to their needs. GOS ICH generates the funding for our research by setting out our proposals in high quality applications to public, charitable and industrial funding bodies and disseminates the results of our research by publication in the medical and scientific literature, to clinicians, policy makers and the wider public. The Institute offers world-class education and training across a wide range of teaching and life learning programmes which address the needs of students and professional groups who are interested in and undertaking work relevant to child health. GOS ICH holds an Athena SWAN Charter Gold Award.

About the role

A new post has arisen to work for 2 years (in the first instance) on a Programme grant joint between UCL, Insititute of Child Health and University of Newcastle entitled INSTINCT-MBINSTINCT MB. The work in the programme is focused on 1) understanding the biology of paediatric medulloblastoma with a particular focus on the role of myc as an oncogenic driver, 2) exploiting therapeutic vulnerabilities in combination therapeutics preclinical studies, and 3) analysing mechanisms of response and resistance to therapy at the single cell level. The salary offered in this post is £44,480 - £45,622 per annum and is funded from 01/10/2025 until 30/09/2027 in the first instance.

About you

Work in our laboratory is focussed on the development of cellular immunotherapies for childhood brain tumours. The successful applicant will join an existing team of researchers with a focus in this area. As the purpose of the role is to complete two ongoing, critical immunotherapy projects and manuscripts, we are looking for an applicant who has a PhD and experience in the field of cell and gene therapy for cancer and who has recent experience of primary T cell culture, CARTs, immune assays, flow cytometry, molecular cloning, retroviral transduction and orthotopic animal models. Previous experience with CARTs, molecular cloning and animal models is essential. The post holder will join a team of scientists at ICH as well as linking with the collaborating groups at the partner Institutions in the collaboration.
