Hepatology Testing, Education & Treatment Coordinator

King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
London

Job overview

The South East London Viral Hepatitis Team is offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated and skilled Band 5 Testing Coordinator to join our Viral Hepatitis Operational Delivery Network (ODN).

The post holder will play a key role in identifying and engaging individuals and groups who would benefit from Hepatitis testing, Liver Health Checks, and/or curative treatment. The role involves coordinating and delivering a range of projects, including testing and treatment pathways, Liver Wellness clinics, and outreach events across diverse settings such as primary care, drug and alcohol services, community venues, and health and justice environments.

The post holder will provide clinical interventions such as FibroScan assessments and phlebotomy both in hospital and community settings.

We are seeking a candidate with a primary or secondary care background and/or experience in drug and alcohol treatment services, with strong communication and engagement skills to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and community partners.

By joining our team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to innovative and impactful projects that bring us closer to the national goal of eliminating Hepatitis C by 2025. You will play a vital part in expanding case-finding initiatives, improving access to treatment, and strengthening data collection to evidence the effectiveness and equity of new models of care.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake case finding initiatives to identify individuals with Hepatitis and wider liver disease risk factors through GP practices, laboratory databases, and community organisations.

  • Support delivery of Community Liver Health Checks, engaging at-risk populations and encouraging uptake of screening.

  • Liaise with patients to encourage engagement in care and agree convenient appointment dates, times, and locations.

  • Facilitate prioritisation and linkage to care for HCV-positive individuals and those identified through Community Liver Health Checks.

  • Carry out hepatitis blood testing and FibroScan assessments at outpatient clinics, outreach sites, and Community Liver Health Check events.

  • Deliver opportunistic testing at community and outreach settings such as drug and alcohol services, primary care, and health and justice environments.

  • Motivate and encourage staff in outreach settings to routinely offer hepatitis and liver health testing using capillary or dried blood spot methods.

  • Monitor and report on the performance of hepatitis and liver health testing carried out by community organisations such as drug and alcohol and sexual health clinics.

  • Support data collection and evaluation from Community Liver Health Checks to evidence impact and equity of access.
