Location: Harrow, North West London
Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only
Start Date: ASAP / Next Term
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience and qualifications
A supportive and inclusive primary school in the London Borough of Harrow is seeking a compassionate and dedicated EYFS SEN Teaching Assistant to join its Early Years team. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on children’s early development by providing tailored support to pupils with Special Educational Needs at a crucial stage in their education.
About the School
The school is a well-regarded, community-focused primary with a strong commitment to inclusion and early intervention. Serving a diverse local population, the school promotes equality, respect, and high aspirations for all learners. The Early Years Foundation Stage is well-resourced, calm, and structured to meet the needs of young children with a wide range of abilities.
Leadership is approachable and supportive, and staff are encouraged to engage in reflective practice and ongoing professional development. SEN provision is a priority, with close collaboration between class teachers, the SENCo, and external professionals.
The Role
As an EYFS SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with children in Nursery or Reception who require additional support to access learning. Pupils may have needs including autism spectrum condition (ASC), speech and language difficulties, developmental delay, sensory processing needs, or social, emotional and mental health challenges.
You will support children on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them to engage in play-based learning, follow routines, and develop communication and social skills. Your role will be vital in helping children feel safe, understood, and confident within the school environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide targeted support in line with EHCPs and individual support plans
Assist children in accessing the EYFS curriculum through structured play and adult-led activities
Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and independence
Support communication development using visual aids, Makaton, or PECS where appropriate
Observe, monitor, and record progress, sharing feedback with teaching staff
Support personal care, toileting, and hygiene needs when required
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCo, and external agencies
Maintain high standards of safeguarding, health, and safety
Person Specification
The successful candidate will:
Have experience supporting children with SEN in an EYFS or primary school setting
Demonstrate patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach
Show an understanding of child development and inclusive practice
Be flexible, proactive, and able to use initiative
Communicate effectively with children, staff, and parents
Relevant qualifications in childcare, education, or SEN are desirable but not essential. The school welcomes applications from experienced practitioners and those looking to build a career in education or SEN support.
What the School Offers
A welcoming and inclusive working environment
Ongoing training in EYFS, SEN, and safeguarding
Clear guidance and support from experienced staff
Opportunities for professional growth and progression
Well-resourced classrooms and outdoor learning spaces
This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting young children with additional needs and making a lasting difference in their early education.
