Job summary

The role supports the provision of education for postgraduate and undergraduate clinical trainees with an emphasis on simulation/Technology Enhanced Learning - TEL and clinical skills for medical trainees. The post is a one-year fixed term contract. It is a unique opportunity for a trainee with an interest in education to develop a high-level of capability working in the field of simulation and inter-professional training. The successful applicant will require commitment and enthusiasm, leadership qualities and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. The post is aimed at those who wish to build on prior experience of medical educational with an opportunity to develop expertise in educational theory, practice, and supervised research. The post would typically suit clinicians entering specialist training or those wishing to undertake further training in simulation either as part of an Out-of-Programme year or after completion of certificate in training (CCT).

Main duties of the job

Education and development responsibilities:

To develop personal skills in advanced simulation-based education including:

An understanding of educational theories.

Knowledge of providing simulation-based education (course design, scenario design, facilitation and debriefing techniques);

Assessment and evaluation methodology

Knowledge of human factors and crisis resource management and their role in simulation based learning and the wider clinical environment.

Participate in the development and teaching of new and existing courses in the simulation and clinical skills environment to ensure that curriculum needs for medical trainees are met. This will include delivering multi-professional courses for under-graduate and post- graduate trainees in conjunction with experienced Faculty in the Simulation Suite.

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Completion of foundation training
  • Evidence of having attended a simulation 'Train the Trainers' programme
  • Evidence of participation in a medical education- related study programme
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice at time of appointment.
Desirable

  • Higher degree (MSc, MD, PhD or equivalent
  • Publications in recognised medical or academic journals
  • Evidence of a teaching qualification
  • Training in debriefing methodology
  • Previous experience in simulation
  • Training in debriefing methodology
