The Role
As an EYFS Teaching Assistant, you will:
Work closely with class teachers to support nursery and reception pupils
Assist in delivering structured and play-based learning activities
Support children with SEN, EAL, or other additional learning needs
Observe, monitor, and record children’s progress, providing feedback to teachers
Encourage independence, curiosity, and confidence in young learners
Prepare classroom resources and assist with day-to-day routines
You will also assist in outdoor learning, creative play, and school trips, ensuring a safe, engaging, and stimulating learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting children in whole-class, small-group, and one-to-one activities
Delivering play-based and structured learning experiences under teacher guidance
Supporting children’s social, emotional, and behavioural development
Maintaining classroom routines and organisation
Preparing and organising learning resources
Monitoring and documenting children’s progress
Supporting children with SEN, EAL, or other additional needs
Participating in staff meetings, training, and school initiatives
Assisting with school events, extracurricular activities, and trips
The Ideal Candidate
The school is seeking an EYFS Teaching Assistant who:
Has experience working with children aged 3–5
Understands early years pedagogy and child development principles
Is patient, nurturing, and empathetic
Demonstrates excellent communication and teamwork skills
Can effectively support children with SEN or EAL
Brings creativity and enthusiasm to play-based learning
Maintains flexibility and adaptability in a busy classroom
Builds positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues
