Junior data scientist
Why we need you
At Consumer Intelligence, we turn data into market-leading insight for the UK General Insurance market. As we expand our data science capability, we’re looking for a Junior Data Scientist to help us boost innovation, deliver smarter products, and drive high-impact analytics for our clients and internal teams.
You’ll be working hands-on with Python, SQL, and machine learning, working on everything from model development to embedding analytics in client-facing products. Reporting to the Head of Growth & Innovation and closely supported by our Data Scientist, your impact in this small team will realise cutting edge solutions, a comprehensive analytical toolkit, and accessible exciting insight across the business.
What you’ll achieve
- The reach and scalability of our data science solutions is broad, with optimal adoption, coverage, and automation
- Innovative solutions are scoped, delivered, and generating value quickly
- You are an essential team player on internal projects, agile delivery, and parallel development, balancing commercial and technical interests
- Non-technical people have a strong comprehension of the value and potential of data science solutions across all audiences
- Your work is constantly adapted and tailored according to business needs and commercial goals
What you’ll do
- Prepare, transform, and analyse structured/unstructured datasets
- Build, monitor, and refine predictive models using supervised learning
- Develop scalable pipelines for production-ready deployment
- Document and visualise outputs for technical and non-technical audiences
- Support strategic innovation and R&D initiatives
- Work with Product, Insight, and IT teams to embed models in workflows
- Commit to self-driven continuous learning, jumping on new discoveries and capabilities that can support our work
What we’re looking for
- Proficient in Python (pandas, scikit-learn, etc.) and comfortable with SQL
- Solid understanding of supervised machine learning
- Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail
- Curious, collaborative, and commercially aware
Nice to have
- Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, SQL Server)
- Familiarity with Power BI or similar visualisation tools
- Understanding of insurance, finance, or regulated data environments
- Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Maths, or equivalent experience
You don’t need to meet all the above criteria to be a great candidate for this role.
We’re looking for passionate and motivated people to make this role their own; if you have less or more direct experience in the areas relevant to this role we’d encourage you to put forward your interest.
Why join us?
- Work at the heart of pricing and consumer insight in a market-leading business
- Collaborate with a passionate, cross-functional team
- Shape the future of our data science capability and product innovation
- Competitive salary, hybrid working, and opportunities for professional growth
- Private Medical Insurance after 3 months service/completion of probationary period
- 24 days holiday plus bank holidays, increasing by one day each year up to 28 days
This is a full time, permanent role. We are based in Bristol and are happy to accommodate hybrid or remote working as part of our outcome only working practices.
We have 2 offices in the Bristol area, one in a prime central Bristol location only a few minutes’ walk from Bristol Temple Meads Railway Station, and another in Westbury-on-Trym, North Bristol.
We work very hard here at Consumer Intelligence, and we care about your experience and seeing you win both professionally and personally. If you have any questions about the particulars of our compensation and benefits for this role, please contact us.
