Passive Fire Surveyor

What does the role involve?
As a Passive Fire Surveyor with us, you’ll be responsible for conducting detailed fire door and compartmentation surveys, ensuring compliance with current fire safety regulations. Working alongside Senior Surveyors and Associates, you will play a crucial role in improving fire safety within a range of buildings by identifying risks, advising on remedial actions, and supporting the delivery of safety improvements from survey to reporting.
Responsibilities
- Undertake detailed fire door inspections and compartmentation surveys across a variety of building types
- Assess the condition, compliance, and effectiveness of fire-stopping systems and elements of passive fire protection, identifying breaches or non-compliance
- Produce accurate survey reports, photographic evidence, and compliance documentation in accordance with industry standards and regulations
- Work closely with senior colleagues to develop remedial action plans and support clients in achieving fire safety compliance
- Support in project planning, cost estimation, and delivery timelines for remedial works
- Liaise with facilities managers, building owners, and contractors to coordinate access and site logistics
- Maintain detailed knowledge and ensure all surveys and reports adhere to fire safety standards, legislation, and best practice guidance
- Support in the preparation of tender documentation, tender evaluations, and tender recommendations
- Actively participate in CPD and training relevant to passive fire protection and building surveying
- Maintain and develop technical understanding of Buildings, construction, management, and operations, including their defects, and assist with the technical knowledge of other colleagues
- Managing and working with multi-disciplinary project teams
- Assist in general office duties including such as preparing time sheets and attending weekly meetings
- Managing progress meetings
- Support the Senior Surveyors and Associate Directors keeping them informed of progress
- Always take personal responsibility for the health and safety of self and others by working within the Health and Safety policy and procedures
- Endeavour to improve our social and environmental impact
- Any other duties as reasonably required
Requirements
- Relevant experience in surveying, construction, or fire safety
- Experience in conducting fire door and compartmentation surveys
- Accreditation or certification in fire door inspection/passive fire safety training (e.g. BRE/Level 3 Fire Inspection Course)
- Excellent understanding of fire safety legislation, building regulations, CDM and construction Health & Safety
- Excellent report writing and documentation skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a client-focused approach
- Ability to manage projects independently and support junior colleagues
- Organised, with good time management and attention to detail
- Ability to analyse projects and report performance to line manager
- Proactive, thorough, and safety-conscious
- Friendly and professional, with excellent communication skills
