Senior Data Engineer ( Microsoft BI Stack)
We’re seeking an experienced Data Developer to join a major data migration programme within a leading banking organisation. This contract role sits at the heart of a large-scale transformation initiative, supporting the modernisation of data platforms and enabling high-quality, data-driven decision-making across the business.
As a Data Developer, you’ll take a lead role in migrating complex data from legacy systems into modern target platforms, working closely with both technical and business stakeholders to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and traceability throughout the migration lifecycle.
What you’ll be doing
- Design, develop, and maintain data solutions using the Microsoft BI stack (SSRS, SSIS, T-SQL).
- Lead and support end-to-end data migration activities, from analysis through to validation and deployment.
- Analyse complex legacy data sets to understand structure, quality, and usage — particularly where documentation is limited.
- Translate business requirements into clear, robust technical specifications.
- Perform detailed source-to-target data mapping, defining transformations, calculations, and derivations.
- Carry out data profiling to identify data quality issues and support remediation activities.
- Interpret and work with data models and entity relationship diagrams for both source and target systems.
- Drive improvements in performance, automation, data quality, and reliability.
- Administer, maintain, and support data analytics platforms.
- Perform unit testing, troubleshoot issues, and support seamless system integration.
- Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in an agile delivery environment.
About you
We recognise that great candidates don’t always meet every requirement — if this role excites you, we encourage you to apply.
- Strong experience designing and developing solutions using the Microsoft BI stack (SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, T-SQL).
- Demonstrable experience delivering data migration projects, particularly involving legacy systems.
- Advanced SQL skills (T-SQL or PL/SQL).
- Solid understanding of ETL / ELT, data warehousing, BI, and cloud-based data solutions.
- Experience working in agile environments, with exposure to CI/CD and test automation.
- A proactive self-starter, comfortable working autonomously and as part of a collaborative team.
Why join?
- Work on a high-profile data migration programme within a regulated banking environment.
- Tackle complex, large-scale data challenges with real business impact.
- Collaborate with experienced data and technology professionals.
