Job Title: Autism Practitioner
Location: Baston House School, Bromley, Kent, BR2 7AB
Hours: 37.5 per week | Monday–Friday | 8.30am - 4.30pm
Salary: £24,675.00 per annum (not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only
Start: September 2026

About the Role

As an Autism Practitioner, you’ll play a vital role in helping young people feel understood, supported and confident in their learning. You’ll create a safe, structured and engaging environment where students can thrive, develop their independence and build positive relationships.

Working alongside teachers, tutors and our wider multi-professional team, you’ll provide personalised support that reflects each student’s individual strengths, needs and goals. You’ll help remove barriers to learning, encourage social and emotional development, and celebrate progress every step of the way.

You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to planning and delivering engaging activities, adapting resources and using tailored interventions to help every student reach their potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support teachers and tutors in delivering high-quality, inclusive education for students with autism
  • Assist in the implementation of school policies, procedures, and individualised education plans
  • Provide targeted one-to-one and small group support to enable students to access the curriculum with increasing independence
  • Promote students’ physical, academic, social, and moral development
  • Organise and maintain engaging classroom environments, including resources and displays
  • Contribute to the preparation and upkeep of student documentation, such as Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Communication Profiles, Risk Assessments, and Pastoral Support Plans
  • Work collaboratively with staff to ensure student safety both on and off-site, in line with risk assessments
  • Contribute to the school’s ongoing development, improvement plans, and wider initiatives

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at minimum Level 4 (Grade C)
  • Has experience working with pupils with autism and/or challenging behaviour
  • Can work independently and as part of a team
  • Has strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Is adaptable, patient, and proactive, committed to helping pupils achieve their potential

Baston House School is an independent day specialist school in Bromley, Kent, supporting children and young people aged 5–19 with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and associated needs. The school provides a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where pupils are fully included in all aspects of school life.
