Legal Counsel in City of London

City of London, Greater London

Job description

Location: London, Oxford, or Cambridge (hybrid; minimum two days per week in office)

About the Company

This innovative health technology organisation is on a mission to transform how individuals and clinicians understand and manage health. By focusing on prevalent diseases that impact billions and place significant pressure on healthcare systems, the company is developing advanced tools and platforms that enable truly personalised medicine.

Harnessing the power of genomics and data science, the team is building solutions that support people throughout their healthcare journey—from prevention and early detection to diagnosis, treatment, and the development of new therapies. With a commitment to scientific excellence and strong partnerships, the company aims to make healthcare smarter, more precise, and more personal.

If you're excited by the potential of cutting-edge science and technology and want to contribute to meaningful change in healthcare, this could be the opportunity for you.

The Role

The company is seeking a capable and motivated junior lawyer to join its expanding Legal team. Based in London, Oxford, or Cambridge, the successful candidate will support a wide range of legal matters across both UK and US operations. This is a dynamic and varied role, primarily focused on commercial legal work, with opportunities to broaden your scope as the business continues to grow.

This position is ideal for someone eager to take ownership of day-to-day legal responsibilities, with guidance and support from experienced colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts
  • Provide practical, solution-oriented legal advice to internal stakeholders
  • Navigate emerging legal issues in a fast-evolving sector

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer in England or the US, with a minimum of one year post-qualification experience (or equivalent)
  • Solid experience in commercial contracting
  • Adaptable and proactive approach
  • Strong team orientation
  • High standards of professionalism and integrity
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace

Desirable Attributes

  • Training at a top-tier law firm
  • In-house experience, ideally within life sciences, healthcare, technology, or a venture-backed scale-up
  • Willingness to expand into new areas over time, such as M&A, corporate governance, incentives, employment law, product development, and international expansion (with external support as needed)

Benefits

  • Competitive Salary: Benchmarked annually to ensure alignment with market standards
  • Annual Leave: 25 days plus 3-day company-wide year-end closure, in addition to public holidays
  • Career Development: Transparent progression framework and access to extensive learning resources
  • Flexible Working: Hybrid model with the option to work from anywhere in the UK, provided regular office attendance (minimum twice weekly)
  • Health & Wellbeing: Comprehensive health insurance for employees and their families, critical illness cover, life insurance, and enhanced family leave
  • Inclusive Culture: Option to swap public holidays for personally or culturally significant dates
  • Charitable Giving: Tax-efficient payroll giving scheme
  • Sustainable Travel: Cycle-to-work scheme and offices located near major transport hubs
  • Social Engagement: Regular company events, team activities, and social initiatives
