Company Overview

Skyline Whitespace is an exhibition design and build company based in South West London delivering modular and custom exhibition stands across the UK and internationally. We are known for high-quality design, well-built stands, and reliable delivery onsite.

Job Summary

This is a standalone AV role responsible for establishing, running, and developing Skyline Whitespace’s in-house AV capability. Historically, AV for our exhibitions has been fully outsourced. We have recently invested in our own AV equipment and are now bringing this capability in-house for the first time. This role is key to making that transition successful.

The AV Technician will take full ownership of AV delivery across exhibitions, events, and the company showroom. The role covers the complete AV lifecycle, including content preparation, basic video editing, equipment testing, onsite installation, live operation, post-show checks, and ongoing maintenance.

You will be the internal point of contact for all AV-related activity, working closely with Operations, Project Management, and Design teams. The role requires someone comfortable working independently, making technical decisions, setting processes, and taking responsibility for outcomes in live event environments.

Key Responsibilities

AV Department Ownership

• Set up and run the company’s in-house AV function as a one-person role
• Establish practical processes for AV preparation, content handling, testing, installation, and returns
• Take ownership of AV equipment, maintenance planning, and stock lifecycle
• Act as the internal technical lead for AV across all projects
• Identify improvements to quality, reliability, and efficiency as the department develops

AV Preparation, Content & Equipment Handling

• Prepare, test, and configure AV equipment including LED screens, monitors, PA systems, media players, and control hardware
• Pre-load, format, and test AV content for exhibitions and events
• Carry out basic video editing and content adjustments, including trimming, looping, formatting, and file conversion
• Support clients and internal teams with the creation and preparation of content for exhibition screens
• Ensure all AV equipment and content is clean, functional, and complete before dispatch
• Identify missing, faulty, or incompatible equipment or content and resolve or escalate issues promptly
• Pack AV equipment securely and ensure safe loading into company vehicles

Onsite Installation & Operation

• Deliver and install AV equipment at exhibition venues and event sites
• Configure and operate AV systems onsite, including signal routing, LED wall configuration, media playback, and sound checks
• Troubleshoot technical issues during setup and live operation, responding quickly to minimise disruption
• Work directly with Project Managers, Build Supervisors, and clients to ensure AV delivery meets expectations

Showroom AV Management (HQ Based)

• Take ownership of AV systems within the company showroom
• Set up, test, and maintain AV for client presentations, internal reviews, and demonstrations
• Manage showroom content to ensure displays are current, well-presented, and reliable
• Resolve day-to-day AV issues within the showroom and office spaces

Post-Show, Maintenance & Stock Control

• Check in AV equipment following events and identify damage or missing items
• Clean, test, and re-shelve equipment correctly
• Carry out basic repairs and refurbishment to keep equipment in good working order
• Maintain accurate AV inventory records using FileMaker or similar systems
• Ensure AV equipment is stored safely, securely, and ready for redeployment

Warehouse & Operational Support

• Support loading and unloading of AV and general event equipment
• Help maintain an organised, clean, and safe warehouse environment
• Work collaboratively with the wider operations team during busy build and break periods

Skills & Experience

Essential

• Minimum two years’ experience in an AV role, ideally within exhibitions, live events, or similar environments
• Proven experience installing, operating, and fault-finding AV systems
• Experience preparing digital content for screens and LED displays
• Basic video editing skills and confidence working with common media formats
• Comfortable supporting clients and non-technical colleagues with AV and content requirements
• Experience working independently or as the sole AV technician on projects
• Strong attention to detail and pride in delivering high-quality work
• Practical, reliable, and calm under pressure
• Good understanding of event health and safety requirements
• Experience with LED video walls and signal distribution, including HDMI, SDI, and basic networking
• Full UK driving licence, or willingness to obtain one

Desirable

• Experience managing or setting up AV stock and processes
• PAT testing or forklift certification
• Familiarity with FileMaker or similar inventory systems

Competencies

• Leadership through example in live environments
• Confident decision-making during installations and events
• Practical problem-solving with minimal disruption to schedules
• Clear, professional communication with clients and internal teams
• Strong organisation and time management under event deadlines
• Accountability for technical delivery and post-show outcomes
• Adaptability to changing schedules, venues, and requirements
• Strong health and safety awareness

Working Conditions

Location: Based at the South West London HQ, with frequent UK travel and occasional international work
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 17:00, with early starts, late finishes, and weekend work as required by event schedules
Physical Demands: Manual handling of AV equipment, standing for long periods, working in busy show environments
Health & Safety: PPE and site-specific safety procedures must be followed at all times

Key Performance Indicators

• All AV equipment and content tested before dispatch
• No critical onsite AV failures caused by preparation or setup errors
• AV equipment checked in and stored correctly within 24 hours of return
