Quantity Surveyor in City of London
Job description
Modus Careers is partnering with a leading structural steel firm seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to play a pivotal role in driving their continued commercial success.
With 12–13 projects currently live and more already secured, the business is busy through to the end of 2026, and their loyal client base continues to generate major opportunities.
This is a key senior-level hire, designed to help propel the business to the next stage of growth. You’ll be joining a team that has recently strengthened its operations at a senior level, and now the focus is on adding commercial expertise that can match the scale of their projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take full commercial ownership of large-scale structural steel projects, ensuring financial success from inception through to final account.
- Prepare, manage, and negotiate project budgets, forecasts, and cost plans to maximise profitability.
- Administer JCT & NEC contracts, including valuations, variations, change control, and dispute resolution where required.
- Manage subcontractor procurement, tendering, and applications for payment, ensuring fair but commercially robust terms.
- Provide accurate and timely cost reporting, cash flow forecasts, and monthly valuations to senior leadership.
- Work closely with project managers and site teams to monitor project progress, assess risks, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Liaise confidently with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners to build long-term, collaborative relationships.
- Support the development of commercial strategies and contribute to wider business planning and growth initiatives.
- Ensure all contractual obligations are met and financial controls are maintained across projects.
Requirements:
- Proven track record as a Quantity Surveyor within structural steel construction and fabrication.
- Experience in cost managing projects (£10M+) with demonstrable success in cost and contract management.
- Strong working knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts, with the ability to manage variations and change processes effectively.
- Excellent analytical and negotiation skills, with the ability to handle complex financial data and present findings clearly.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, confident in liaising with clients, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Proactive, commercially focused, and able to work both independently and collaboratively within a close-knit team.
- Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ambition to contribute not just to projects, but to the wider commercial growth and success of the business.
What’s on offer:
- An extremely competitive package, with salary and benefits tailored to the right candidate’s experience and expertise.
- Flexibility with 3 days a week typically on London sites, and the remainder split between home and the HQ in Haverhill.
- The chance to be part of a business that is secure, ambitious, and growing fast, with a pipeline secured until the end of 2026.
- The opportunity to make a genuine impact, this is a pivotal hire at a defining stage of the company’s journey.
If you’re looking for a role where your expertise will shape the future of a growing construction business, and where the projects and pipeline are already secured, this is it.
