Risk Governance Manager
We are looking for a Risk Governance Manager who will play a critical role in coordinating the risk management processes that underpin Our Future Health’s ability to deliver on its strategic goals. By supporting a coherent, organisation-wide approach to risk, this role ensures that risks are identified, understood, and managed in a way that protects the trust of stakeholders and enables innovation.
Our Future Health is the UK’s largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to develop new ways to detect, prevent and treat diseases. We are a charity, supported by the UK Government, in partnership with charities and industry. We work closely with the NHS and with public authorities across all nations and regions of the UK.
Our plan is to bring together 5 million volunteers from right across the UK who will be asked to contribute information to help build one of the most detailed pictures we have ever had of people’s health. Researchers will be able to use this information to make new discoveries about human health and diseases. So future generations can live in good health for longer.
What you’ll be doing
In this role you will act as a key point of contact for internal teams on the risk process, providing guidance and support to help build capability and understanding. Your key responsibilities will also include but not be limited to:
- Coordinate the organisation’s risk management processes in line with established frameworks and strategic objectives.
- Maintain and oversee the Corporate Risk Register, ensuring risk entries are complete, consistent, and regularly reviewed.
- Work with risk owners across the business to ensure risks are identified, assessed, treated, and monitored in line with agreed principles.
- Provide quarterly risk reporting to the Executive Team and Audit & Risk Committee and support annual risk reporting to the Board.
- Chair the monthly Risk Management Group meeting, facilitating discussion, escalation, and follow-up on risks across teams and functions.
- Collaborate with Heads of Delivery to support effective risk management at programme level, ensuring consistency with corporate risk policy.
- Support teams, particularly within Ethics, Compliance & Governance, to develop and maintain operational risk registers.
- Identify and monitor emerging risks and ensure timely escalation through the appropriate governance channels.
- Help ensure alignment between risk management and related assurance processes such as incident management, internal audits, third party management and corrective action—supporting integration and coherence, while recognising these processes are owned by others.
- Continuously review and improve the risk governance framework, templates, and training materials.
- Promote a culture of risk-based thinking that supports innovation, compliance, and confidence in delivery.
Requirements
To succeed, you will have experience supporting or coordinating risk governance processes within a complex or regulated environment. You will also have some of the following skills and experience:
- Sound knowledge of risk management frameworks and methodologies (e.g. ISO 31000 or equivalent).
- Familiarity with digital risk registers or governance tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence).
- Understanding of key principles such as risk appetite, mitigation, tolerance, escalation, and oversight.
- Ability to support the development of policies, procedures, and reports that align with legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations.
- Confident and effective communicator, skilled in engaging audiences at all organisational levels and preparing polished written materials, such as reports and dashboards for leadership and Board-level review.
- Exposure to or experience with ISO management systems (e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 27001), certification processes, or internal/external audits.
- Demonstrated ability to support, guide and influence others in applying principles and following process.
- Collaborative mindset and an ability to coordinate activity across teams with differing priorities.
- Strategic thinker with attention to detail and a pragmatic, delivery-focused approach.
- Committed to building a positive culture of accountability, transparency, and shared ownership of risk.
