Senior Radiographer - Neuroimaging (Band 6)
Job overview
Please note, this role is currently within a consultation period for a proposed organisational change. This includes a change to the roles, scope of patient cohort and modalities required by the current job description. Please email [email protected] with any further queries.
The Neuroradiology department at King’s is one of the busiest in the UK, providing specialised imaging services to the population of South East London and Kent. King’s is a major trauma centre with the only 24 hour helicopter service in London, and a hyper-acute stroke centre.
We work a 4-day compressed hours week, where weekend and night shift working will be a requirement.
The Neuroradiology CT scanner is integral to the hyper-acute stroke pathway as well as other advanced neuroradiology scanning such as STEALTH, cranioplasty and intracranial CT angiography.
The department has 3 Siemens MRI scanners, including a brand new 3T system. We carry out specialised MRI studies such as advanced tumour imaging, perfusion scanning, spectroscopy and functional imaging, in addition to scans under general anaesthetic for both adult and paediatric patients.
In our bi-plane interventional suite, radiographers are an integral part of the team, participating in neurovascular treatments such as coil embolization of cerebral aneurysms, and mechanical thrombectomy for acute stroke. The thrombectomy service has recently been extended to provide 24/7 access to this vital intervention.
Main duties of the job
As a Neuroradiographer, you will rotate through MRI, CT, IR, x-ray and theatres, working within the multi-modality team to provide an efficient and patient-focused service. A comprehensive training programme is provided in all areas. CT, MRI or angiography experience is desirable.
You will be a qualified radiographer with experience in general radiography, able to assess and image the daily caseload of patients, and to ensure provision of the highest standards of patient care. You will be able to work autonomously, consulting senior staff as and when necessary.
You will be expected to participate in the supervision and teaching of Radiographers, Radiology Department Assistants, Assistant Practitioners and Student Radiographers as appropriate.
This post has a weekend and night working requirement as part of a 7 day working pattern.
