Senior Oracle DBA / Platform Engineer

Role Overview
We are a large, global SaaS provider operating mission?critical, high?availability platforms at scale. We are seeking a Senior Oracle DBA / Oracle Platform Engineer with deep expertise in Oracle RAC and Exadata , combined with a modern DevOps and automation mindset .
This role sits at the heart of our core data platform, supporting highly transactional, always?on SaaS services used by customers worldwide. You will be responsible not only for the stability, performance, and resilience of our Oracle estate, but also for driving automation, standardisation, and platform modernisation across the database landscape.
This is a hands?on technical role for someone who enjoys operating at scale, solving complex problems, and improving how Oracle platforms are built and run.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and operate large?scale Oracle database platforms , with a strong focus on Oracle RAC and Exadata
- Ensure high availability, performance, and resilience of mission?critical SaaS systems
- Lead and execute Oracle database upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management , minimising risk and downtime
- Diagnose and resolve complex performance, stability, and availability issues across clustered environments
- Design and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies , including regular testing
- Drive automation of DBA operations using infrastructure?as?code and configuration management tools
- Integrate Oracle platforms into CI/CD pipelines and modern delivery workflows
- Partner closely with SRE, DevOps, Cloud, and Application Engineering teams
- Support cloud and hybrid deployments , including Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and on?prem integrations
- Define and improve standards, runbooks, and operational best practices
- Act as a technical authority and mentor for other engineers in the platform team
Required Experience & Skills
Core Oracle Expertise (Essential)
- Extensive hands?on experience as an Oracle DBA in enterprise environments
- Deep, practical expertise with:
- Oracle RAC
- Oracle Exadata
- Strong knowledge of:
- Oracle architecture and internals
- Performance tuning (SQL, memory, I/O, RAC internode traffic)
- High?availability and clustering concepts
- Proven experience operating 24×7, business?critical systems at scale
DevOps & Automation (Essential)
- Strong experience automating DBA and infrastructure tasks
- Hands?on usage of tools such as:
- Terraform, Ansible, or similar
- CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, etc.)
- Git?based workflows
- Comfortable working in DevOps / SRE?aligned environments
- Ability to treat database platforms as code and products , not just servers
Cloud & Modern Platforms (Highly Desirable)
- Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)
- Familiarity with hybrid or cloud?native architectures
- Exposure to containerisation or Kubernetes environments (even if databases remain stateful)
- Experience supporting SaaS platforms with multi?tenant or high?growth workloads
