As an Environmental Health Officer in the reactive service delivery team, you will help protect public health and maintain safe, well-regulated environments for Westminster’s residents, visitors and businesses.
Working within Public Protection and Licensing, you will respond to food-related service requests, complaints and risks, including food poisoning allegations, allergen incidents, unsafe practices, foreign bodies and complex food standards concerns. You will triage requests, assess risk and public health impact, create accurate cases and make proportionate decisions about advice, engagement, education or enforcement. You will also undertake visits and inspections, provide technical advice to businesses and support formal enforcement activity where required. This is a busy, hands-on role requiring strong communication, negotiation, de-escalation and professional judgement. An established professional with a degree of diploma in Environmental Health — or equivalent experience — you’ll be registered with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board. Having conducted complex food-related investigations in a previous role, you’ll have experience advising businesses on compliance, and will bring strong triage, risk-assessment, decision-making, and conflict management skills.
On a personal level, you’ll be a strong communicator, capable of keeping a cool head in busy, challenging and sensitive situations. Your professional judgement will be excellent, and you’ll be confident interpreting and applying complex legislation.
