Tax Lawyer
Job description
Corporate Tax Lawyer - London
We are currently working with a highly ranked corporate tax team in London that is looking to add a 2–5 PQE associate as part of a period of sustained growth. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax lawyer who wants exposure to genuinely high-end work, close interaction with market-leading partners, and the chance to be part of a team that is actively evolving and expanding its offering.
The group is busy across multiple fronts and is particularly focused on continuing to strengthen its corporate tax capability while also building out a growing tax controversy practice.
The tax team is led by one of the most well-known and respected figures in the tax world, supported by a small number of senior partners with complementary strengths across corporate and contentious tax. The wider group includes a select number of counsels and associates, creating a structure that is lean enough to allow for real responsibility, but deep enough to support complex, high-stakes matters.
This is a top-tier tax practice, consistently recognised for the quality and sophistication of its work. The team advises on a broad mix of matters, including corporate transactions, advisory work, and contentious tax issues. While priorities naturally shift depending on client demand, associates are deliberately given exposure across all areas of the practice, allowing them to develop into well-rounded tax lawyers rather than being narrowly siloed. The client base spans a wide range of industries, adding further breadth to the experience on offer.
A key growth area for the team is tax controversy. A senior hire was made specifically to develop this side of the practice, and there is clear momentum behind building out this capability further, offering associates the chance to be involved in shaping a developing area within an already elite tax platform.
Candidate Profile
- 2–5 PQE
- E&W qualified
- Strong tax experience from a top-tier tax practice
- UK corporate tax experience strongly preferred
- Exposure to advisory, transactional, or contentious tax matters
- Strong technical ability combined with commercial awareness
- Comfortable working closely with partners on complex matters
- Curious, adaptable, and keen to broaden their skill set
Working Pattern & Compensation
- Target hours: 1,800 per year
- Salary: Cravath scale
- Bonus: Discretionary, based on class year
This is a rare chance to join a tax team that combines exceptional technical pedigree with real growth momentum. The quality of work is consistently high, the partner access is significant, and the opportunity to learn from one of the most prominent figures in the tax market is a genuine differentiator. With the team expanding and the controversy practice gaining traction, this role offers both immediate exposure to premium matters and longer-term career development within a leading tax platform. For an associate looking to deepen their expertise while remaining broad, visible, and challenged, this is a compelling opportunity.
