Role - Director of COO Office / Chief of Staff
Location - Farringdon, London (Hybrid, 3 days in office)
During an exciting period of change and transformation at Royal Mail, we have a new opportunity for a Director of the COO Office. Acting as a strategic partner and Chief of Staff to the Chief Operating Officer, you will driving critical projects and ensure seamless execution of organisational priorities. You will oversee the end-to-end management of strategic initiatives, aligns cross-functional teams around common goals and enhances operational effectiveness across the business.
As a trusted advisor, you will extend the COO’s bandwidth by shaping company strategy, providing insightful analysis and maintaining clarity of communication. Exceptional leadership, commercial acumen and problem-solving abilities are essential to succeed in this dynamic, high-impact position.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead cross-functional initiatives, ensuring teams deliver against shared objectives on schedule
- Provide analysis, insights and recommendations to inform executive decision-making
- Develop and translate key communications into presentations and other formats for internal and external audiences
- Ensure successful implementation of programmes within the COO function, managing compliance with performance measures
- Identify potential roadblocks, mitigate risks and propose proactive solutions to challenges
- Track and report on key performance metrics, refining strategy as required
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven track record in delivering complex projects within a matrix-managed organisation
- Collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence and build trust across teams
- Strong stakeholder management, capable of forging relationships to meet tight timelines
- Deep understanding of operational KPIs and their impact on overall business performance
- Comfortable dealing with ambiguity
- Demonstrable strategic and analytical thinking, with a focus on both big-picture and detail-oriented work
- Track record of drafting influential and impactful written communications for senior audiences, e.g. board packs
- Experience in a senior leadership role, ideally as Chief of Staff or a similar strategic operations position
- Effective cross functional communication skills at all levels from frontline to senior execs
- Proactive, solution-orientated mindset with robust risk-management skills
