Associate (NQ-6PQE) Derivatives and Structured Product - Leading International Law Firm in City of London

City of London, Greater London

Job description

Our client is a leading international law firm, looking to expand its Finance team in London with the addition of a talented Associate. The role sits within a high-performing practice advising on complex derivatives, structured credit, securitisation, and structured finance transactions. You will gain exposure to high-profile clients across banking, investment management, and corporate sectors, with the chance to lead on sophisticated cross-border matters.

Practice Overview

The Finance practice advises both buy-side and sell-side participants on a wide spectrum of structured products and financing transactions. Clients include major global banks, asset managers, hedge funds, pension funds, and corporates active in key financial markets. The group regularly partners with colleagues in structured credit, securitisation, and energy/project finance to deliver innovative solutions tailored to client needs.

The London Finance group is part of a wider global platform spanning North America, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East. The integrated network enables the team to provide seamless advice on multi-jurisdictional transactions, regulatory compliance, and emerging market developments.

Responsibilities

As an Associate in this team, you will take on a mix of transactional and advisory work. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and negotiating derivatives and structured finance deals under appropriate supervision
  • Drafting clear, commercially focused advice for clients on complex legal issues
  • Advising on a wide range of derivative products, including OTC, exchange-traded, and structured securities, as well as repos and securities lending
  • Working on structured financings such as margin loans, total return swaps, and bespoke equity-linked structures
  • Supporting transactions in securitisation and structured credit, often in collaboration with colleagues in adjacent practice groups
  • Advising on regulatory and compliance aspects (including EMIR and SFTR) impacting derivatives and structured products markets
  • Analysing credit, liquidity, insolvency, and netting issues relevant to transactions
  • Building relationships with clients through active participation in meetings, deal execution, and business development initiatives

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will be a lawyer with NQ to 6 years’ PQE . Prior experience in derivatives from a leading international law firm is essential, and additional exposure to one or more of securitisation, structured finance, or energy/project finance will be highly valued.

Key requirements include:

  • Experience advising on derivatives transactions (OTC, structured, or securities-based)
  • E&W or NY Qualified
  • Familiarity with securitisation, structured credit, or related financing transactions
  • Excellent drafting skills with a focus on accuracy and commerciality
  • A proactive approach to client engagement and business development

Development and Culture

Our client is committed to investing in the growth of its lawyers. Associates benefit from structured training, close partner supervision, and genuine opportunities to take on client-facing responsibilities early in their careers. The Finance team is known for being collaborative and supportive, with an inclusive environment where individual contribution is recognised and rewarded.
