SEND Teaching Assistant – Secondary

Full-time | Permanent | Start: Spring 2026

We are supporting a high-performing secondary school to appoint a SEND Teaching Assistant to join its established SEND department.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to work closely with pupils who have a range of special educational needs, supporting both academic progress and personal development in and beyond the classroom.

The Role

You will work as part of a SEND support team , providing in-class and out-of-class support to students with identified SEND needs. This includes 1:1 support, small group interventions , and contributing to a positive, structured learning environment.

You will play a key role in helping pupils engage with learning, regulate behaviour, and make meaningful progress.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students with SEND in lessons and during structured interventions

  • Deliver targeted small-group support programmes

  • Assist pupils in accessing the curriculum effectively

  • Support behaviour and emotional regulation strategies

  • Promote a calm, purposeful learning environment

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff and pastoral teams

  • Monitor and support pupil progress and engagement

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND

  • Ability to support learning and behaviour effectively

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Calm, consistent and reliable approach

  • Commitment to safeguarding and pupil welfare

Desirable Experience

  • Experience delivering small group interventions

  • Experience supporting behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Experience working in a secondary school setting

  • Understanding of a range of SEND profiles
