This role sits within the Core RDN team at the Royal Marsden specialising in cancer and community, however the Lead Clinical Research Nurse will also oversee the Early Diagnosis and Detection (ED&D) team, overseeing both research and clinical projects in collaboration with the Trust. The key responsibilities for the Lead Clinical Research Nurse for Community and Early Diagnosis and Detection are to support the organisation by engaging with stakeholders and coordinating a diverse range of activities. In this role you will ensure the smooth delivery of programmes and initiatives, maintaining ongoing relationships, and managing the Early Diagnosis and Detection team leader. You will work closely with internal teams, external partners and community representatives to facilitate seamless collaboration and ensure that all clinical and operational aspects are delivered to high standard. Ideally the postholder should have previous clinical research experience in the field of cancer and preferably in the community would be helpful. To be educated to degree level, you will work within the guidelines and policies for the conduct of clinical trials, ensuring high standards of practice in accordance with the principles of GCP. 1.1 Serve as a subject matter expert in Early Diagnosis and Detection and lead community engagement efforts by fostering and establishing collaborative relationships with community organisations (e.g., hospices, prisons), ensuring the Trust builds and maintains sustainable partnerships with external stakeholders.
1.2 Provide clinical leadership to nursing staff and offer expert professional guidance to multidisciplinary teams and other professionals, serving as a key resource for information, support, and advice to both patients and staff.
1.3 Take responsibility for maintaining an evidence-based practice and contribute to the advancement of knowledge that underpins nursing practice within the community and the Early Diagnosis and Detection (ED&D).
1.4 Collaborate with peers across the Trust – including the ED&D team, RDN team, relevant corporate directorates and departments – as well as with external stakeholders, national networks to support integrated and effective service delivery. • The postholder will oversee both research and clinical projects in collaboration with the Trust. These projects may involve early diagnosis and detection, anti-cancer treatments (such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, biological or gene therapy, or surgery), symptom management, cancer screening, or other areas of cancer care.
• A key focus of the role is to support the team leader who will be responsible for the recruitment, education, and monitoring of patients participating in clinical trials. The post holder will work closely with the chief/principal investigator, research fellows, and multidisciplinary teams. They will support the team leader who will be involved in offering guidance, information to patients throughout their involvement in the trial.
• In addition to overseeing the clinical research portfolio, the Lead Clinical Research Nurse will collaborate with relevant staff to ensure high-quality, continuous care for all patients involved in clinical trials.
• Maintain oversight of ongoing clinical trials and research within the unit, ensuring accurate tracking of project statuses and providing regular updates to the department lead.
• Ensure the team collaborates effectively with the multidisciplinary team to facilitate an oversee the appropriate referral and recruitment of patients for research trials within the unit.
• To develop and sustain effective communication pathways within the research team, across other departments within the Trust, and with relevant external organisations, including non-commercial entities and pharmaceutical sponsors. This advert closes on Thursday 4 Sep 2025
