Senior FP&A Analyst, Universal Pictures

Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Universal Pictures International (UPI) is the International Distribution and Marketing division for Universal Pictures. In the United Kingdom, Austria, Spain, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, Korea, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and China, UPI directly markets and distributes movies through its local offices, creating campaigns and release strategies that respond to the culture and market behaviour of those territories. In other parts of the world, UPI partners with Paramount and Sony in the distribution of all three companies’ films. Universal Pictures is part of NBCUniversal, one of the world’s leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment, news, and information to a global audience. Job Description
This is a commercial and operationally focused role, acting as a finance business partner to the UK & Eire OpCo. That will mean owning all FP&A processes and providing financial support at title, project, and strategic levels. This role will also have responsibility for analysis and insight of Box Office data, working closely with the Finance Director to support distribution strategy.
Responsibilities
Business Partnership
- Support the Finance Director and sales team to optimise film distribution strategies and commercial terms
- Finance lead on title analysis and Box Office data – presenting weekly to FD, MD, and Sales Director
- Support the Marketing team with analysis to optimise spend levels, cost splits, and campaign strategies
- Review and report on cost savings from marketing efficiencies and data management projects
- Drive focus on all rights profitability and provide analysis to support cross-divisional decision-making
- Prepare the weekly exec pack with focus on Universal market position and tracking for execs to use in weekly meetings
- Provide financial and modelling support to analyse commercial opportunities
- Responsible for the integrity and analysis of Box Office data
- Own the OpCo Distribution storyboard, updating metrics and highlighting areas of focus
- Assist teams with Awards Budgeting between departments and manage the process and tracking
- Manage the Box Office return reporting tool to analyse any change in ticket pricing and promotion effectiveness
FP&A Submissions
- Quarterly pacing for by-title P&L, overheads, and cash
- Own the annual overheads budget process
- Annual Budget presentation support and analysis to support numbers
- Own the allocations and split by title
- Primary contact for all ad hoc FP&A queries
Title Tracking
- Maintain Integrated Planning Documents; work with Marketing to track cost savings and ensure POs and invoices are raised on a timely basis
- By-title variance analysis on all budget lines
- Submit Territory Contribution Reports and ensure they are kept up to date and in line with marketing Adpub thresholds
- Maintain weekly reporting data for SMT
- Ensure accuracy of all Box Office data reported by Rentrak
Quarter End
- Prepare schedules required for Quarter close: rental accruals, open PO accruals, title allocations, rebate accruals, and any others as required
- Liaise with the Controllership Analyst to ensure all postings are made correctly and the quarterly accounts are accurately presented
Other
- Line manage our finance intern and work together/delegate appropriately from the above workload
- Support EMEA/International distribution team with ad hoc analysis
- Work with International Finance to roll out any new or best practice UK processes to other territories
- Lead FP&A process improvement projects
- Ad hoc commercial/financial project analysis
- Work closely with the Controllership Analyst to ensure FP&A and Controllership activities are aligned
Skills & Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Accredited UK professional finance qualification (or near completion)
- Previous experience in a similar role
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and multi-task, managing own workload
- Strong attention to detail, with ability to sense-check own work and feed upwards
- Excellent Excel and data analysis skills with experience in building models and working with large quantities of data
- An active interest in seeking out new ways to use data to support insight and strategy and develop the UK OpCo data landscape
- Strong presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial insights clearly and confidently to Senior Management.
- Strong analytical skills
Desired Characteristics:
- Experience and knowledge of Power BI or similar data visualisation programmes
- Knowledge of SAP/BW
- Experience in a media environment
