Summary:

As Appointments Leader, the role holder will be required to work alongside the other Appointments Leader in assisting the G7 in developing an efficient appointments onboarding service to the senior judiciary and the Lord Chancellor in relation to their responsibilities to judicial office holder appointments (Courts, Tribunals and Magistracy).

Responsibilities, Activities & Duties:

Working to the Head of Judicial Office Holder Appointments Team, this role involves supporting the team on the provision of quality and timely advice on appointments to the judiciary. This could include the following responsibilities:
Providing assistance to the G7 and/or leading on the recruitment/appointment of the most senior judiciary, including the Lady Chief Justice, Senior President of Tribunals, Heads of Division and Court of Appeal appointments.
To provide leadership of a diverse team and support the management of development and performance to ensure the team is working to its greatest potential.
Overseeing the provision of accurate and timely advice to the Lord Chancellor, the Lord Chief Justice, the Senior President of Tribunals and the Senior Presiding Judge on recommendations for Judicial Office Holder appointments, including appointments to Advisory Committees.
To embed continuous improvement within the team, using quantitative information to inform decision making and accountability across the team. Including the analysing and reporting of the data on the work tracker against SLA’s.
To implement new ways of working to business as usual, whilst balancing the demands on the team.
To make sure submissions prepared by the team follow the approved templates and guidance, making sure the advice is clear and succinct.
Working with the JAC, HMCTS, Advisory Committees, Judicial College and MoJ with a view to securing the effective and timely delivery of recruitment of judicial office holders.
Management of team’s workplan to ensure effective and timely delivery of workstreams, against agreed Key Performance Indicators and Service Level Agreements.
Responsible for dealing with high level issues that candidates may have with the appointment process with a view to finding solutions that are legally sound/compliant with the Lord Chancellor’s Directions.
Shared responsibility with other Team leaders for the file management of HR Ops ensuring linking in with the MII Team for best practice.
Oversight of the team’s responsibilities in respect to statutory consultation, ensuring that the responses sent to the JAC are in line with the expected standards or that any concerns are brought to the attention of the statutory consultee.
Providing advice and support to the senior judiciary on judicial appointments, considering the wider impact of the decision. This will include attending meetings with the senior leadership judiciary e.g., deployment meetings following large scale recruitment campaigns.
Build successful partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders – including MoJ Judicial Policy, HMCTS (Workforce Planning, Legal Operations and RSUs), Judicial College, JAC and Advisory Committees. To engage with stakeholders to continuously improve our ways of working and the experiences of candidates for judicial appointment.
Ensuring that the team have the capabilities and skillset to work to its greatest potential and are confident decision makers.
Providing regular updates and briefings as required, often at short notice.
Develop a collaborative way of working with SEO colleagues in the Complex Appointments and Admin Team as well as colleagues in Relationship Management that will ensure a seamless systematic approach, providing clarity for Judicial Office Holders and the Department through collaborative working and shared knowledge of the whole appointments system.

The individual will be expected to cover and provide seamless leadership across all onboarding areas of appointments and that of offboarding in the courts, tribunals, and magistracy where necessary, during colleagues’ periods of absence.
