    As IT Network Manager, you will be instrumental in creating the IT Network strategy and future direction that underpins the essential work undertaken at NPL. You will lead a talented team of IT Network Engineers whose remit encompasses operational management of the NPL IT network, Estates IT network, NPL Firewalls & Telephony. You’ll also lead on managing the design, development and maintenance of connectivity services across NPL’s different sites. Key areas of focus include:

    • Leading the technical planning, solution options development and implementation of network and security projects and upgrades
    • Developing and implementing reporting methods and automated remediation to drive accurate and effective cyber security decision making
    • Managing network incidents, reporting across the business, developing incident response activities and co-ordinating with external stakeholders.
    • Planning and directing technical resources to meet service level agreements to time, cost and quality
    • Managing third party and external suppliers to target 100% network availability.
  • About You

  • To be successful in the role you will require a solid mix of technical and leadership skills, including:

    • IT networking and communications technologies (Alcatel-Lucent a bonus) to cover LAN/WAN/Voice/Wi-Fi
    • Proficiency in Firewall (Fortinet), VPN and Cloud (Azure) network technologies
    • Experience of Estates IT infrastructure including Building Management Systems (BMS), CCTV and environmental controls
    • Proven experience with network devices and protocols, including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, IPAM and DHCP/DNS services
    • IoT and scientific IT systems including network segmentation/ zero trust and handling of large datasets
    • Monitoring and Reporting configuration and management tools across all aspects of network topologies including hands-on experience with network monitoring and management tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark)
    • Network specification and design support, covering connectivity, capacity, interfacing, security, availability and remote access
    • Operational network management processes, technologies and associated infrastructure.

    You’ll also bring:

    • Excellent communication and relationship management skills, including third party support providers, industry partners, internal project delivery and system vendors.
    • Strategic, analytical thinking and sound decision making ability
    • The ability to lead and mentor team members
    • Strong organisational and time management skills
