About the Role
As Director of AI & Automation, you’ll spearhead the strategic integration of Artificial Intelligence and automation across Royal Mail. You’ll identify high-impact use cases, embed intelligent solutions into core business functions, and deliver measurable outcomes that enhance productivity, quality, and customer experience.
You’ll lead a team of 5–20 direct reports and manage a wider matrix organisation and supplier ecosystem impacting over 500 colleagues. With direct accountability for up to £10m in annual tech spend and the potential to unlock £30–80m in business benefits, your influence will be felt across every corner of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
AI Strategy & Adoption: Define and execute a transformative AI roadmap aligned with business goals.
Cross-Functional Integration: Embed AI into logistics, customer service, finance, HR, and more.
Power Platform Enablement: Drive low-code automation using Microsoft Power Automate and Power Apps.
Use Case Delivery: Build and manage a pipeline of high-value AI initiatives from concept to scale.
Governance & Ethics: Ensure responsible AI use, data integrity, and regulatory compliance.
Change Leadership: Champion cultural and behavioural change to support digital adoption.
Vendor Management: Evaluate and manage technology partners for scalable, secure solutions.
Performance Tracking: Define KPIs and report on efficiency, cost savings, and user satisfaction.
Innovation Leadership: Stay ahead of emerging trends and foster a culture of experimentation.
What You’ll Bring
Proven leadership in AI, automation, or digital transformation within large organisations.
Deep understanding of AI technologies (ML, NLP, computer vision) and enterprise applications.
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Power Platform tools.
Strong stakeholder engagement and change management skills.
Strategic mindset with a bias for action and measurable impact.
Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial impact analysis.
Knowledge of responsible AI principles and compliance frameworks.
