Role Summary

A leading civil engineering contractor specialising in groundworks and reinforced concrete frame packages is looking to appoint an experienced Civils Groundworks & RC Frame Estimator to join its pre-construction team in Barnet.

The business has an annual turnover in excess of £100 million and delivers major groundworks, substructure and reinforced concrete frame packages across London and the South East.

This is a senior estimating position suited to someone with a strong commercial and technical understanding of RC frame and groundworks projects who is comfortable taking ownership of tenders from initial enquiry through to final submission.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed estimates for reinforced concrete frame and groundworks packages.
• Analyse drawings, specifications, bills of quantities and tender documentation.
• Carry out accurate take-offs and build detailed cost plans.
• Price labour, plant, materials and subcontractor packages.
• Assess groundworks, drainage, foundations, substructures and concrete frame works.
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Identify commercial risks and opportunities within tender documentation.
• Produce competitive tender submissions while protecting required margins.
• Work closely with directors, commercial teams, planners and operational staff during the tender process.
• Attend pre-tender and post-tender meetings with clients where required.
• Review construction programmes, logistics and proposed methods of construction.
• Prepare tender adjudication information for senior management.
• Maintain awareness of current labour, plant and material market rates.
• Support tender negotiations and provide estimating input through to contract award.

Experience Required

• Strong estimating experience within the groundworks and reinforced concrete frame sector .
• Previous experience working for a specialist RC frame, groundwork or civil engineering contractor.
• Excellent understanding of concrete frames, foundations, drainage, earthworks, substructures and associated civil engineering packages.
• Proven experience pricing sizeable and technically challenging projects.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, sequencing and temporary works considerations.
• Commercially aware with the ability to identify tender risk and opportunity.
• Confident dealing with subcontractors, suppliers, clients and internal delivery teams.
• Able to manage multiple tenders and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong numerical, analytical and communication skills.
