A welcoming and inclusive community primary school in Richmond is seeking to appoint a dedicated and experienced School Business Manager to join its supportive leadership team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an organised, proactive and solutions-focused professional to play a key role in the effective financial and operational management of the school. The successful candidate will work closely with the Headteacher, senior leaders, governors and staff to ensure the school operates efficiently, safely and in line with statutory and financial requirements.
Job Overview
The School Business Manager will have responsibility for a broad range of financial, operational and administrative functions, helping to ensure the school has the resources, systems and processes needed to provide an excellent learning environment for pupils.
Working as a key member of the school's leadership structure, you will oversee school finance, budgeting, procurement, premises, health and safety, contracts and administrative services. You will provide accurate financial and operational information to support effective decision-making and contribute to the school's strategic development.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the school's day-to-day financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, monitoring expenditure and financial reporting.
Ensure financial processes and controls comply with relevant statutory, local authority and school requirements.
Prepare financial information and reports for the Headteacher, senior leadership team and governors.
Oversee payroll, purchasing, invoicing, banking, reconciliations and other financial administration.
Manage procurement processes and negotiate effectively with suppliers and contractors to achieve value for money.
Oversee premises, facilities, maintenance, cleaning, security and site-related services.
Coordinate health and safety, risk assessments, compliance checks and statutory inspections.
Manage contracts, service agreements and relationships with external suppliers and professional services.
Support HR and staff administration, including recruitment processes, contracts, payroll liaison and maintaining appropriate records.
Ensure effective administrative systems are in place across the school and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
Work closely with the Headteacher and governors on strategic planning, resource management and school improvement priorities.
Support safeguarding and ensure operational procedures contribute to a safe and secure environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
Contribute to audits, inspections and compliance requirements, ensuring documentation and records are accurate and up to date.

Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience in school business management, finance, operations or a closely related educational setting.
Strong knowledge of school finance, budgeting, financial controls and reporting.
Experience of working with senior leaders and governors and providing clear financial and operational advice.
Excellent organisational and administrative skills with strong attention to detail.
Experience managing procurement, contracts, premises, facilities and health and safety processes.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, parents, suppliers and external organisations.
A proactive and solution-focused approach to managing operational challenges.
Strong IT and financial systems skills, with confidence working with Microsoft Office and relevant finance or school management systems.
An understanding of safeguarding, compliance and the importance of maintaining a safe school environment.
The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative school leadership team.
A commitment to supporting an inclusive community and ensuring school resources are managed effectively and responsibly.
