Lead Product Designer (Design System)
Ready to revolutionize healthcare, making it faster and more accessible than ever before?
How we started:
Back in 2013, our founder Dwayne D’Souza saw an opportunity to give people faster and more convenient access to medications using technology. We've grown rapidly since our inception, without any external funding whatsoever – achieving profitability through innovation and a highly disciplined approach to growth.
Where we are now:
We’ve earned the trust of millions of people worldwide through our top-selling products and well-known brands: MedExpress, Dermatica, ZipHealth, RocketRX, and Levity. A lot of our success is down to having our own pharmacies, manufacturers and products – spearheaded by leading in-house medical teams, researchers and pharmacists. Between 2023 and 2024 our global revenue tripled; £60m to £180m (300% year-on-year growth). We're looking to do the same in 2025; move into new territories, and further accelerate our growth journey. There’s never been a more exciting time to join HeliosX.
Where we’re going:
Over the next five years, you’ll support our goal to become a world-leading healthcare partner, deepening our customer relationships, expanding into new countries, and diversifying our product portfolio to treat more conditions. You’ll be part of helping more people access prescription treatments and, most importantly, making personalised care better, quicker and easier for everyone.
Come be a part of making our dream of easier and faster healthcare a reality!
About the Role
As the Staff Product Designer for our Design System, you will be the chief architect and advocate of the visual and interactive language that powers all HeliosX products. This is a pivotal leadership role where you will not only design components but also build the foundational framework that enables our teams to deliver high-quality, cohesive, and accessible healthcare experiences at scale.
You will own the vision, strategy, and execution of the HeliosX Design System, collaborating closely with Product, Engineering and Brand to create a robust and scalable system. As a senior member of the design team, you will elevate our craft, mentor your peers, and drive the adoption of system-centric thinking across the entire organisation.
What You’ll Be Doing
Strategy & Vision:
- Define and drive the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the HeliosX Design System, aligning it with company-wide product and business goals.
- Act as the primary thought leader for system design, championing its value and impact to stakeholders at all levels.
- Establish key metrics and objectives to measure the system's adoption, health, and impact on product development velocity and user experience quality.
System Development & Governance:
- Lead the end-to-end design of a comprehensive system, including foundational principles, design tokens, accessible components, and robust patterns for web and mobile platforms.
- Establish and govern a clear contribution and maintenance model, empowering other designers and engineers to contribute to the system effectively.
- Author and maintain documentation, guidelines, and training materials that make the system easy to understand and use.
- Ensure the system is built on a foundation of inclusivity and accessibility, meeting WCAG standards.
Collaboration & Advocacy:
- Forge a deep, collaborative partnership with front-end engineering leads to ensure component architecture is scalable, performant, and delightful for developers to use.
- Act as the primary advocate for the design system, driving its adoption across all product teams through workshops, office hours, and proactive support.
- Partner with Product Managers, Researchers, and other designers to identify and prioritise new system requirements based on user needs and product roadmaps.
Leadership & Mentorship:
- Mentor and upskill product designers across the organisation, fostering a culture of excellence and consistency in UI/UX craft.
- Lead design critiques and workshops, providing expert feedback that elevates the quality of our product experiences.
- Continuously improve our design processes and workflows, identifying opportunities for the design system to increase team agility and efficiency.
Who you are:
- You have 10+ years of experience in product design, with a proven track record as a Staff, Principal, or Lead Product Designer focused on building and scaling design systems in a high-growth tech environment.
- You have a portfolio that demonstrates deep expertise in creating and maintaining systematic, scalable design solutions that have been successfully adopted by product teams.
- You can translate complex business and user needs into a clear, long-term vision for a design system and can articulate that vision compellingly to anyone in the company.
- Experienced in designing for global markets, with an understanding of localisation and international UX best practices.
- Skilled in human-centred design, discovery, and prototyping, with the ability to navigate complex product and compliance challenges.
- Strong visual and interaction design craft, with mastery of tools like Figma and a deep understanding of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG).
- A natural systems thinker who can see across the product ecosystem and design for scale and consistency.
- Comfortable in cross-functional, fast-paced environments, ideally within tech, health tech, or regulated industries.
- Confident working independently, managing ambiguity, and driving forward strategic design initiatives.
- You are an excellent collaborator and communicator, able to articulate the 'why' behind system decisions to designers, engineers, and product leaders with clarity and confidence.
- You have a proven ability to mentor fellow designers and lead high-impact, cross-functional initiatives. You build consensus and drive decisions.
