News Print Editor

The Telegraph
London

About The Role

A senior position within the News print team, using the Telegraph’s digital treatment of key news stories to create top quality newspaper pages. The News Print Editor will work with the Print Editor in determining the running order and shaping the pages, with particular focus on the main pages in the paper - from a page 3 on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to a spread on Donald Trump’s trade war. They might be required to take several posts from a liveblog and combine them into a news wrap, or pull out the key facts from an interview to turn into a page 1 write-off.

They will be asked to step up at times to edit the paper. The News Print Editor will feel comfortable traversing a diverse mix of subjects, editing copy and creating visually stunning pages. They will be guided by our content’s online performance to build the pages with an awareness of digital publishing across the newsroom.

  • Determine running order with the Print Editor’s approval.

  • Take subbed digital copy and edit as required, checking style and quality as well as making any necessary revisions.
  • Work with the Head of Production and digital chief subs to ensure copyflow operates as efficiently as possible.
  • Conceptualise design ideas with page designers and ensure digital visuals are adapted appropriately for print.
  • Be fully aware of digital priorities and use the digital performance of articles to guide story selection and headline choice.
  • Write brilliant, sharp and fresh headlines and furniture to make the pages gleam.
  • A razor sharp eye for legally sensitive content to quickly refer for guidance.
  • Liaise with writers, commissioners and digital publishers to ensure copy is accurate and legally sound.
  • Ensure pages are off stone on time.
  • Deputise for the Print Editor as required.
