Purpose of the Role
Our fleet of On Track Machines, situated in the Southern Region, working alongside our stakeholders to maintain the track for the safe running of passenger trains. As an On Track Machine Team Leader, you will work with and supervise a team to achieve operational excellence, providing the maintenance and on track renewal work to provide a safe operational railway. The ideal candidate will live in the Anglia area or within 1.5 hours of Cambridge.
Person Specification
We value the behaviours, attitudes and skills which will help you to develop and excel in this exciting, challenging role. We are looking for a candidate with the following qualities:
- Previous working experience with On Track Machines ideally with expert knowledge as a Driver/Operator or Fitter/Operator or Multi Skilled Operator.
- Dynamic, driven, determined and professional.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Training, mentoring and coaching ability and willingness to train in these areas.
- Positive attitude and thrives in a busy and pressurised environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication - ability to take the lead on safety critical reporting and safety critical/non-safety critical situations.
- Analytical problem solver.
- Flexible, Honest & Punctual – Able to work weekends and bank holidays as part of a 24/7 shift-based roster (Essential)
- Competent Computer Skills; Microsoft Windows packages incl. Word, Excel, Outlook
- Full knowledge of UK Rail Operations and Standards and excellent geographical knowledge of the Southern Region
- Full UK Driving Licence (Essential)
Key Responsibilities
Working with and supervising a medium sized shift-based team, some of your day-to-day activities will include:
- Guiding and inspiring your team members to work in a professional and respectful manner.
- Influencing and ensuring a safe working environment for all.
- Hosting monthly team briefs, keeping team up to date with Company news and events.
- Encouraging safety conversations and close call reporting.
- Ensuring the accurate reporting, recording any real time issues including incidents, accidents and environmental occurrences in a professional and efficient manner informing the appropriate parties in the correct timescales in accordance with Company procedures.
- Responsible for machine service faults & failures being carried out and escalated to out maintenance department and communicating all issues affecting operational shift performance to relevant parties.
- Setting an example - All activities are to be undertaken in accordance with policies, procedures, and safety rules.
- Conducting Team Personal Development Reviews annually
- Supporting and encouraging team training and development needs.
- Achieving high standards through determination, commitment, and motivation.
