About the Role
As the Global Head of Engineering & Construction (E&C), you'll lead our vision and strategy to drive profitable growth across our diverse E&C portfolio. Working collaboratively with Market Units, you'll shape our global underwriting approach while ensuring alignment with broader business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership - Define the vision and strategy for the global E&C portfolio, driving profitable growth and performance
- Portfolio Management - Take accountability for the Profit & Loss of the Global E&C portfolio, defining risk appetite and ensuring profitable growth
- Technical Excellence - Serve as the ultimate point of reference on technical issues and stay ahead of emerging technologies and market trends
- Team Leadership - Directly lead the Wholesale Underwriting team in London while collaboratively guiding Market Unit Underwriters globally
- Relationship Building - Cultivate strategic relationships with key clients and brokers, representing Swiss Re Corporate Solutions at the highest levels
- Risk Governance - Ensure full compliance with applicable underwriting standards and risk management frameworks
- Innovation - Drive the development of new solutions to address evolving client needs in the engineering and construction sectors
About the Team
You'll be part of an international team with diverse technical and scientific backgrounds. While Market Unit Underwriters report into their regions, you'll work closely with colleagues across the global Engineering & Construction community. Our team combines excellent technical expertise with strong team spirit, always focused on delivering the best solutions for our clients. The collaborative environment encourages innovation and knowledge sharing across borders.
About You
You're a seasoned engineering professional who has successfully transitioned into insurance leadership, combining deep technical knowledge with commercial acumen. You thrive in collaborative environments while being decisive when needed. Your strategic vision is matched by your ability to execute and deliver results, and you're passionate about developing talent and fostering an inclusive team culture.
We are looking for candidates who bring:
- University degree in an engineering discipline (civil, mechanical, chemical or process engineering) or comparable education with strong affinity to the engineering & construction industry
- Minimum of 15 years of experience as a professional engineer, including managerial roles and site experience with construction/erection supervision
- Minimum of 10 years engineering underwriting experience with a primary insurance or reinsurance company
- Proven track record in leading and managing global teams with diverse backgrounds
- Strong experience in quantitative data analytics and decisive portfolio steering
It would be an advantage if you had:
- MBA or postgraduate degree in economics, finance or business administration
- Broad global network with corporate clients and brokers
- Experience in change management with a visionary mindset
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills across all organizational levels

For London, the annual base salary range for this position is between GBP 172 000 and GBP 258 000 (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:
- the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,
- the applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.
In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits.
Eligibility may vary depending on the terms of Swiss Re policies and your employment contract.
