Global Head of Engineering – Real Estate Services
Real Estate Services (RES) is part of the Global Procurement & RES Infrastructure team within Global Chief Operating Office (GCOO) at HSBC. The function is designed to deliver an exceptional and workspace experience with a strong emphasis on estate management and the evolving future of work.
The team directly engages with multiple suppliers worldwide, making effective supplier management critical to operational success.
In this fantastic new role, you will join a growing team and take responsibility for providing strategic leadership and oversight for all engineering and critical facilities globally, ensuring world-class standards, optimized performance, and resilience across HSBC’s real estate portfolio. This is a truly, global role, defining and implementing the Target Operating Model (TOM), leading global risk stewardship for building unavailability, and driving innovation in engineering service delivery while aligning with the broader WE&O, Capital Management, RES strategy and Bank sustainability ambition.
In this role, duties will include:
- Drive strategic planning and global implementation of the Target Operating Model for critical facilities in collaboration with RES, IT, and business partners, such as our Business Risk and Resilience function, EHS, ESG, IBS functions, PAM, Capital Management BCIM and Climate Risk teams.
- Develop, standardize, and enforce Group-wide protocols for engineering operations, maintenance regimes, and performance management.
- Align critical facilities programmes with HSBC’s Real Estate strategy and ESG commitments, while benchmarking performance against industry peers.
- Coordinate integrated planning and delivery across global, regional, and market teams to ensure consistent and responsive service provision.
- Engage senior stakeholders to translate business requirements into engineering solutions and secure executive endorsement of key initiatives such as decarbonisation and capital investment and strategic location strategy.
- Oversee energy audits, green building certifications, and decarbonization initiatives to advance sustainability objectives.
- Provide support and engineering guidance to the Datacentre Management team within technology.
- Drive global procurement strategies, negotiating supplier agreements and monitoring SLAs and KPIs to optimize cost and mitigate risk.
- Act as Global Risk Owner by embedding risk management and internal control frameworks to safeguard facility availability.
- Promote digitalization through deployment of building management systems, IoT monitoring, and predictive maintenance tools.
- Support the ESG Finance and Stress Testing teams in developing financial models and reporting aligned with our external disclosures.
- Monitor and report on key performance metrics, delivering regular insights to leadership via dashboards and executive reporting.
- Support the Global Head of Workspace Experience & Operations to drive performance outcomes and optimum value through our third-party suppliers (tier 1, 2 & 3) in respect of engineering excellence and alignment with the HSBC ESG objectives
- Replacement program, partnering with the design governance team and providing support on global MSA consultant performance.
- The role requires the ability to guide, persuade and influence others (sometime cross discipline) through developed skills of communication and diplomacy .
To be successful in this role you should have the following skills:

- Engineering industry relevant certifications, professional affiliations, registrations or licenses are required for this role

This role is based in London or Birmingham on a hybrid basis.
