IT Support Technican
About this Role
The CWU is a campaigning trade union at the forefront of workplace organising. The technical infrastructure internal to the union is under a period of review and change at an increased pace.
The Department and Role:
• The CWU IT Department manage and support technology provision across the union, including end-user devices, telephony, hosted services on-site and in the cloud.
• The post holder will provide 1st line technical support within a small team.
Responsibilities of our IT Support Technician include:
• To handle incoming technical support incidents, requests and changes; identifying and troubleshooting technical issues and escalating more complex problems where necessary
• Log support requests accurately and promptly using the IT helpdesk system
• Create and maintain technical documentation
• Support configuration and installation of desktops and laptops; and conduct regular maintenance tasks including system updates, backups, and security checks
• Provide end-user training and support in the use of IT systems and applications
• Contribute to the development of IT policies and procedures
What we are looking for in our IT Support Technician:
• A degree level qualification or substantial relevant experience. Expected certifications: CompTIA Network+ and/or A+ certification, Microsoft or CCNA or similar.
• Extensive experience providing 1st/2nd line IT support in a professional environment
• Strong desktop support experience with Windows 11 (macOS & Linux experience desirable)
• Experience of working in IT Support function using ITIL or similar frameworks.
• Experience of creating and maintaining technical documentation
