About the role
Join our Capital Markets & Risk team as the senior point-person for structuring and underwriting complex debt facilities (typically £1 – 100m turnover clients). You will design the frameworks that assess prospective borrowers, steer portfolio-level risk strategy, and collaborate with Commercial, Product, Data and Finance squads to unlock new segments, jurisdictions and channels while keeping returns firmly within risk appetite.
What You’ll Do
- Architect risk & credit frameworks – set the end-to-end processes for evaluating new merchants/borrowers and other key risk initiatives.
- Underwrite & structure transactions – lead deal origination, covenant design, security packages and pricing for bilateral, syndicated and bespoke facilities.
- Own a live portfolio – actively monitor performance, adjust structures, and balance risk metrics with commercial targets on volume and revenue.
- Drive expansion strategy – shape credit policy as the product suite scales into new customer types, geographies and sales channels.
- Provide insight & reporting – distil complex analytics into clear materials for leadership, funders and external stakeholders.
- Mentor & influence – guide junior team members and serve as the go-to contact for cross-functional risk questions as the business grows.
Requirements
- 5+ years in debt capital markets, structured finance or corporate banking with a track record of leading complex credit transactions.
- Demonstrated expertise in underwriting, covenant setting, monitoring and security structuring for mid-market businesses.
- Proven ability to build and manage diversified portfolios and optimise risk-adjusted returns.
- Advanced analytical skills: financial modelling, large-data interrogation and critical credit assessment.
- Influential communicator who can translate strategy and performance to senior leadership, investors and cross-functional teams.
- Self-starter recognised for methodical problem-solving, impeccable organisation and parallel work-stream management. Start-up mentality, happy to build-it-yourself and work fast under time pressure.
