Organising Assistant - GMB London Region
About this Role
Applications are encouraged from people who are under-represented in the union. We actively encourage women, Ethnically Diverse/Global Majority Heritage, Disabled and LGBT+ people to apply.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
GMB is one of Britain’s largest trade unions; we’re proud to represent over half a million people from across the professional spectrum and all walks of life. Our London Region is a large and diverse region, and is currently seeking applications for a Organising Assistant to join their team, on a 12 month fixed-term contract.
The successful postholder will be actively engaged in supporting the region to build and grow our membership by assisting the union’s officers to identify unorganised workplaces for recruitment and assist them in the recruitment and retention of members.
It should be noted that the successful postholder may be required to work from other locations or offices across the London Region outside of their base of work, as part of the role. The hours of work are unspecified and will therefore require flexibility on working hours, which may include elements of early mornings, late evenings and weekend working. Some periods of working away from home may also be required.
The successful candidates will:
- Possess a flexible attitude and a full range of organising, recruitment and administrative skills as outlined in the job description.
- Be able to work on their own initiative to undertake duties in a professional and efficient manner.
- Have an understanding of the GMB Union, other Trade Unions as well as commitment to the wider Trade Union and Labour Movement.
- Applicants must be prepared to work as a team, and the successful candidate would display strong interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in challenging environments.
- On a personal basis, the applicants would need to display energy, enthusiasm, resilience, commitment, and an ability to use initiative.
- We’re looking for someone who possesses the ability to work well independently but is also a real team player.
In return, we offer excellent terms and benefits, including:
Final Salary Pension Scheme
Employee Assistance Programme
Childcare Assistance Scheme
Season Ticket Loan
Cycle to Work Scheme
Generous holiday allowance
Eye Care claim back Scheme
Annual Leave Purchase Scheme
Annual Health Check
This is a varied and interesting role; if you think you may be who we’re looking for and if you feel you meet the criteria outlined in the person specification of the attached job description, we’d like to hear from you.
