Due to increasing pupil numbers and additional learning needs within Early Years, the school is now seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic EYFS Teaching Assistant to join their team.

Role Purpose

The EYFS Teaching Assistant will support children aged 3–5 in Nursery and Reception, helping them develop early learning skills, emotional regulation, and positive attitudes to learning. You will work closely with the class teacher and EYFS Lead to support learning through structured activities, free-flow play, and targeted interventions.

A key aspect of the role involves supporting children with SEN, speech and language delays, EAL, and social or emotional needs , ensuring that every child can access learning and feel confident in the school environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support EYFS learning through play-based and structured activities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils requiring additional help

  • Support children with SEN, including autism, ADHD, and developmental delays

  • Assist with phonics, early reading, mark-making, and early maths activities

  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and independence

  • Support classroom routines such as transitions, snack time, and tidy-up

  • Assist with outdoor learning and physical development activities

  • Observe, record, and contribute to assessments of children’s progress

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, EYFS staff, SENCO, and external professionals

  • Support children with personal care needs in line with safeguarding policies

  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding, health, and safety

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be calm, patient, and passionate about early childhood education. You will understand the importance of consistency, routine, and nurturing relationships in EYFS settings.

You should have:

  • Experience working in EYFS, Nursery, or early years environments

  • Knowledge of the EYFS framework and child development

  • Experience or strong interest in supporting SEN and inclusive practice

  • A nurturing, proactive, and flexible approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Resilience and adaptability in a busy classroom setting
