This is a well-established Independent Secondary School in Haringey , providing a broad and ambitious education for students across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.

The school places safeguarding, student welfare and personal development at the centre of its approach. Students are supported to develop confidence, independence and resilience while maintaining high expectations for behaviour, attendance and academic progress.

The school has developed clear safeguarding procedures and recognises that effective child protection requires strong communication between teaching staff, pastoral teams, senior leaders and support staff.

The successful Safeguarding Lead will work within an established pastoral structure and will have regular contact with staff, students, parents and external professionals.

The school values professional development and ensures that staff have access to appropriate training and guidance. The successful candidate will therefore have the opportunity to contribute to the continued development of safeguarding practice across the school.

Safeguarding Lead Role

The school is looking to appoint an experienced Safeguarding Lead to coordinate safeguarding and child protection procedures.

The successful candidate will act as a central point of contact for safeguarding concerns and will ensure that concerns are recorded, assessed and escalated appropriately.

You will work closely with senior leaders and pastoral staff and will provide advice to colleagues regarding safeguarding procedures.

The role will require excellent judgement, strong organisation and the ability to remain calm when dealing with sensitive or complex situations.

Confidentiality is essential, as the successful candidate will have access to highly sensitive information relating to students and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate safeguarding and child protection procedures across the school.

  • Act as the key point of contact for safeguarding concerns.

  • Receive and assess safeguarding information appropriately.

  • Ensure safeguarding concerns are recorded accurately.

  • Maintain secure and confidential safeguarding records.

  • Provide advice and guidance to staff.

  • Ensure staff understand their safeguarding responsibilities.

  • Work closely with the Headteacher and senior leadership team.

  • Liaise with parents and carers where appropriate.

  • Make referrals to external agencies when required.

  • Liaise with social care and other relevant professionals.

  • Monitor safeguarding cases and ensure appropriate follow-up.

  • Support staff with safeguarding-related questions.

  • Coordinate safeguarding training and updates.

  • Maintain records of staff safeguarding training.

  • Support safeguarding induction for new staff.

  • Contribute to safeguarding policy development and review.

  • Support safer recruitment processes where appropriate.

  • Work closely with pastoral and welfare teams.

  • Monitor attendance and behaviour concerns that may have safeguarding implications.

  • Prepare information for safeguarding reviews.

  • Support inspection and compliance requirements.

  • Ensure safeguarding documentation is maintained appropriately.

  • Promote a strong safeguarding culture throughout the school.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have significant experience in safeguarding, child protection, pastoral support or a related educational role.

You must have a strong understanding of safeguarding procedures and be able to respond appropriately when concerns are raised.

Excellent communication skills are essential because you will work with a wide range of people, including students, teachers, senior leaders, parents and external agencies.

You must be organised and capable of maintaining detailed records while managing several cases and responsibilities simultaneously.

The role also requires someone who understands professional boundaries and can maintain confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Previous safeguarding or child protection experience.

  • Experience working within a school or educational environment.

  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding procedures.

  • Relevant DSL training.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organisation and record-keeping skills.

  • Ability to manage confidential information.

  • Ability to remain calm and professional in sensitive situations.

  • Experience working with parents and external agencies.

  • Good IT and administrative skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with senior leaders and pastoral teams.

  • Strong understanding of professional boundaries.

  • Commitment to student welfare and safeguarding.
