Caretaker - Kingston - January 2026
Are you an experienced, hands-on Caretaker who enjoys making a visible difference to a school environment? A welcoming primary school in Kingston is recruiting a dedicated Caretaker to lead daily site operations from January 2026.
The Kingston Caretaker role will be a varied and autonomous position: you will manage daily opening and closing, routine maintenance, simple repairs and grounds upkeep, ensuring that staff and pupils work in a safe, comfortable environment. Full handover and health & safety induction will be provided prior to January 2026 so the Caretaker can begin the role ready and supported for January 2026.
What you will do day-to-day: carry out pre-opening and end-of-day checks, respond to maintenance requests, maintain plant rooms and heating systems where relevant, arrange and supervise contractor visits and keep the site safe and presentable. The Caretaker will also assist with setting up for school events, support lettings and maintain stock of consumables. In Kingston, the Caretaker will be part of a small, cooperative staff team who value reliability and practical problem-solving.
Role responsibilities
Open and secure school premises, perform safety checks and maintain site records.
Complete basic maintenance tasks (decorating, joinery, plumbing fixes) and escalate major faults.
Maintain external areas, clear seasonal debris and ensure accessible routes throughout Kingston.
Oversee contractors, manage deliveries and maintain inventories of equipment and cleaning supplies.
Provide on-the-day support for events, lettings and emergency situations; liaise with senior staff about site priorities.
Person specification
Previous caretaking, site or facilities experience with practical maintenance skills.
Knowledge of basic plumbing/electrical tasks, health & safety procedures and COSHH awareness.
Organised, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities across the Kingston site.
Ready to start January 2026 and attend induction and handover before January 2026.
To be considered for this teaching position, please forward a CV as soon as possible.
