Job overview
To ensure the provisions are made for a high quality service for all patients that require Occupational Therapy. To carry a caseload of complex patients using evidence-based practise and client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. To develop links with other departments and to facilitate a multidisciplinary team approach. The post requires a flexible approach to working and requires the post holder to undertake weekend commitments as required.

The post holder will ensure the provisions are made for a high quality service for all patients that require Occupational Therapy. The post holder will be required to develop links with other departments and to facilitate a multidisciplinary team approach. Main Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting and Analysis
- To assess and treat patients with complex needs who would benefit from specialist intervention provided by an Occupational Therapist, both in a hospital and in community settings.
- To prioritise and accept appropriate referrals
- To plan, organise and implement appropriate treatment programs.
- To complete and record risk assessment appropriately and act upon this.
- To implement treatment within local guidelines, Royal College of Occupational Therapy standards and clinical governance.
- To plan and implement individual and/or group interventions, in collaboration with clients and carers, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
- To select evidence based techniques as part of a coordinated treatment program.
- To reflect on treatment provided and adapt treatment accordingly.
- To advise clients and carers on specific aids, equipment and adaptations and recommend provisions.
- To communicate complex information to patients who may have barriers to understanding.
- To respect the individuality, values, culture and religious diversity of clients and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs.
- To make appropriate clinical observations and keep accurate records of assessments and interventions in accordance with local and national guidelines.
- To compile clear assessment reports and recommendations for future care, for the multi-disciplinary team and other external agencies.
- To actively contribute and coordinate multi-disciplinary working, including client related meetings e.g. case conference.
- To work as an autonomous practitioner and display appropriate problem solving, analytical and judgement skills.
- To comply with all relevant trust policies, procedures and guidelines, including those relating to equal opportunities, health and safety and confidentiality of information
Management
- To assist in developing services and standards according to the Occupational Therapy objectives.
- To supervise and provide support for unqualified staff as instructed by the Senior Occupational Therapist.
- To participate in the planning, evaluation and audit of practise, outcome measures, clinical pathways and protocols.
- To contribute to the hospital’s clinical governance arrangements and quality agenda.
- To be responsible for maintaining stock and advising on resources to carry out the job efficiently.
- To be aware of the Health and Safety Act and your own responsibility to maintain a healthy and safe working environment
Education
- To have access to supervision to identify own training and development needs.
- To provide support and education to service users and staff regarding aspects of Occupational Therapy.
- To review and reflect on own practise and performance through effective use of professional and operational supervision appraisal.
- To participate in the induction, training and education of students and other staff members.
- To demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate current research and apply this to practise.
- To maintain a professional portfolio for CPD, recording learning outcomes through participation in internal and external development opportunities.

- Dip RCOT or Degree State Registration
- HCPC registered or applied for
