Senior Press Officer

Sarah Dyke MP is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, flexible and self-motivated Senior Press Officer to manage Sarah’s busy press and media communications schedule in the constituency and Parliament to act as the key press liaison to promote Sarah’s work and voice for the people of Glastonbury and Somerton.

Role Responsibilities

● Local and regional press relations: Writing press releases, building relationships with journalists, responding to requests for comments, arranging interviews and providing briefing notes
● Writing articles for local press and on occasion national press
● Pitching articles to local press to raise Sarah’s profile
● Engaging with diary engagements that require press / PR
● Setting up press days / events
● Preparing briefs for press engagements and panels
● Creating visual media content for Sarah’s work as an MP. Designing and developing engaging, targeted content and messages across a range of channels
● Establishing, monitoring, and updating a social media and online presence. Producing online graphics and video content, as well as publicising surgeries and news alerts etc, in coordination with the parliamentary team and the Liberal Democrat press team.
● Managing and monitoring social media enquiries, dealing with cases that do not need to be transferred to a higher level
● Proactively identifying issues of potential importance to constituents
● Providing content for Sarah’s website
● Evaluating the impact of external communications activity
● There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal hours and travel for work occasionally.

Key Skills/Experience

● Building direct relationships with press and securing press coverage
● Delivering integrated multi-channel communications campaigns, idealing including designing, shooting and editing video content and other visual media
● Excellent drafting skills
● Ability to work flexibly as part of a team, but also independently manage own responsibilities
● Meticulous organisation and attention to detail. Ability to work in fast-paced environment, responding quickly to new events

Alignment with the values of the Liberal Democrats is important but association with the Party is not.
