About The Role

This is a senior role in the Telegraph’s print team, responsible for organising resource across sections and for the quality control of pages and sections. It ensures that all content is taken for print from digital publishing in an organised and timely manner to meet newspaper deadlines and achieve ideal page flow to Edition control. This role reports into the Print Edition Editor and is shared with one other person across seven days.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee copy flow to Edition control and allocate Page Editors across all sections to deliver the print product on time each day.
  • Spot and resolve obstacles if and when they arise, providing solutions to the Print Edition Editor.
  • Set page flow and adapt as necessary.
  • Assign pages to Page Editors according to skills and seniority, briefing teams on the top lines.
  • Oversee quality of pages, ensuring headlines and visuals have been efficiently and properly repurposed to achieve The Telegraph’s standard.
  • Help repurpose content in a timely manner when necessary to meet off-stone deadlines
  • Revise proofs and sign off pages.
  • Own the management and development of print Page Editors, identifying capability gaps and putting development plans in place
  • Ensure appropriate resourcing of print publishers across sections
  • Recruit and hire new team members

Key Skills

  • Senior experience of newspaper print production and leading a team.
  • Copy-editing, proofing, subbing and production to a high standard.
  • Quick, accurate writing of headlines.
  • Publishing skills, including knowledge of visual storytelling, infographics and a brilliant eye for photography as well as creative flair for info boxes, polls etc.
  • Enthusiasm, imagination and knowledge of The Telegraph’s digital content.
  • Ability to respond well under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Effective communication and collaborative skills.
  • Strong news sense and judgment.
