Autonomous Vessel Training Lead
Join the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and play a leading role in shaping the future of maritime regulation. We're seeking an experienced professional to lead the development and delivery of the regulatory pathway for autonomous vessels. You'll engage with key stakeholders, drive innovation in training and certification, and influence UK and international maritime policy. Your responsibilities will include, but aren't limited to:
1. Provide expert technical input to support the development, maintenance, and delivery of the Autonomous vessel Operator Training development programme/work plan and to enable delivery against the plan.
2. Build expertise in implementation of training requirement for autonomous vessel from a regulatory perspective so that technical advice can be given to operators to train Autonomous vessel operators.
3. Leading the engagement with other administrations that have an interest in development of training for Autonomous vessels
4. Represent UK in national and international working groups in the area of training for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS)

Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week.
Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 30 hours per week.
This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements.
The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, in another office/work location/visiting stakeholders. Your designated workplace will be your contractual place of work. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.
Regular travel to other offices will be required, which may involve overnight stays.

Stage 1: Sift
At sift, you will be assessed against the following Success Profile elements:
Experience - you will be asked to provide a CV (unlimited wordcount) and personal statement (750 word count). Please provide evidence of your Experience of the following:
+ Experience and understanding of the maritime industry from working on board vessels and an understanding of relevant concepts of Navigation.
+ Previous experience of working in a fast-paced and agile environment and dealing with a large number of diverse stakeholders.
The sift will take place week commencing 27th October 2025.
Stage 2: Interview
At interview stage, you will be assessed against the following Success Profile elements:

+ Technical - MSF 4989-Underpinning Competencies - Level 2: Understanding and application of bridge operation of seagoing commercial ships
You will also be required to create and deliver a presentation to assess the Behaviours Seeing the Big Picture and Working Together. Guidance will be provided if you are invited to interview.
The interviews will take place week commencing 24th November 2025.
This interview will be conducted online via Microsoft Teams. Further details will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.
